Chelsea Clinton Wanted In Kenya

That settles it! The health problems here in the USA can wait. There is obviously a vision emergency in Kenya! We must do something. JMNTHO.

Apparently I missed the memo that made it acceptable for gentleman to publicly suggest that women were physically unattractive. Or are you just hanging around in your tree house waiting for junior high to start next month?

To: Kenyan Dude

From: Hillary R Clinton Secy. of State USA

Subject: Marriage Proposal; Chelsea Clinton.

Bill says add a dozen sheep to the deal and it's good as done. We'll handle things on this end, you just put the livestock on the next boat.

HRC

ps: I have a good tip on cattle futures. Interested?

:D

Kenyan marriage customs and legally-enshrined discrimination against women have led to a considerable decline in marriage in Kenya.

Chelsea would be well advised to avoid a Kenyan marriage.

i never said she was unattractive i thought it would be funny that her parents gave her hand away without her knowledge.

Yes, you did miss the memo. The memo was issued by the White House and it mandated that USA taxpayers pay for Secret Service guards for Chelsea Clinton, among others. As an official USA GOVERNMENT TAXPAYER (you don't need to remember, the IRS will,) I have to pay for Chelsea Clinton. I believe that gives me the right to criticize her.

You have to pay for Chelsea Clinton's protection. I believe that gives you the right to criticize Chelsea Clinton's protection. You'll have to explain in more detail how it gives you the right to criticize anything else about her.

Oh, and if you get that far -- -- please explain why you decide to exercise that right with an attack on her personal appearance.

OR! You can evade the whole mess here by simply acknowledging that you're no gentleman.

I never claimed to be a gentlemen.

I don't believe I made an attack on Chelsea's personal appearance. I simply noted that they apparently have vision problems in Kenya. However, since I'm paying for Chelsea's upkeep, I would seem to have the right to criticise the results of that upkeep.

If you're not a gentleman, and you didn't attack her physical appearance, your response to my original post --

Apparently I missed the memo that made it acceptable for gentleman to publicly suggest that women were physically unattractive. Or are you just hanging around in your tree house waiting for junior high to start next month?

-- was perhaps unnecessary. The post does not appear to have referred to you at all. Glad we cleared that up.

I don't know what the problem is.

Public figures, male and female, can be and are criticised for many things including their personal appearance. Unfortunately it is part of the price of fame (or infamy).

Some members of our Royal Family have been criticised for the personal appearance. Some have been, and are, portrayed unkindly in cartoons printed in our national newspapers. In the UK cartoonists have been using the Royal Family as targets even before the 18th Century Act of Union that created the UK.

Is Chelsea exempt? If so, why? Sarah Palin, Hilary Clinton, Bill Clinton, both Presidents Bush - have all been shown in unflattering lights and have been criticised in every form of media for their personal appearance. So have most movie and pop stars. Some magazines, and the paparazzi that supply them with pictures, make their profits by showing people at their worst.

The post didn't say anything about Chelsea's appearance. Even if it had, such a comment in the Authors' Hangout is likely to have been gentler than things that have already been expressed in print in the US national media.

I think you may have been overreacting. Perhaps you don't watch or read the sort of media that attacks public figures for their appearance?

Og

PS. When I appear in public as Henry VIII I get rude and unflattering comments. It comes with the territory.

My mom had a similar experience recently. A creepy bachelor neighbor tried to bargain with her about my 'hand'. She almost choked on her tea, though he didn't offer any goats. (How very stingy of him!) It didn't bother him I'm married, either.

I guess it's one of those things that go with moving to a picturesque village for your retirement. The neighbors, too, can get picturesque.

Everything always sounds so much better and more proper with a British accent. Thank you Og! The girl is homely, but y'all know the apple hasn't fallen too far from the tree.

One of my (as Henry VIII) wives was referred to as "The Flanders Mare".

Not one of my (as Henry VIII) descriptions even if attributed to me.

Odd isn't it, that if I (as Henry VIII) had been described as "The English Stallion" that would have been flattering, yet calling Anne of Cleves "The Flanders Mare" was an insult.

I think this is a delightful story, actually. Makes me smile. :)

When Chelsea was a minor, she should have been off limits (even though I know some folks took shots at her appearance). Children should be protected.

But she's grown up. She's 29, she has campaigned for her mother, she is certainly in the public eye. She's fair game.

(Even though I feel she is quite attractive. A late bloomer, she bloomed quite well.)

The question is, how flattering is an offer of 40 goats and 20 cows? Is that the norm for Kenya, or is this a "princely sum?"

I think that's the going rate for three Kenyan wives, or 2 pallets of UN food parcels. ;)

Hey. You and me. At the bike racks. 3:00. Be there.

It wasn't a memo. It was the First Amendment to the US Constitution, especially if the woman in question is a public figure. It's available in many places, and you may have even read it when you were in school.
