My wife and I stopped off at a store we have passed more than a couple of times. (Almost every day.) We walked in to the startled glance from the older woman at the register. The place lived up to it's name, it was an Oriental Shop.
She watched as I wandered the aisles and filled my basket. Her eyes opened a bit when I emptied it on the counter. She rang up our purchases. (10 Dried Soups, 3 different bottles of Hot Sauce, 3 jars of different flavors of Chili Paste, several packages of dried Seaweed, an absolutely beautiful set of sticks and several other items.
As she rang these up she kept looking at my wife and me. She must have come to a decision for she then offered me a taste of the Rice Dish she was making behind the counter. I agreed to try it and she smiled as she spooned some out for me.
When she handed me the bowl I looked down at the truly devilish contents and smiled. I could easily identify the Fish and Octopus. Just as I could identify the shreds of Thai Peppers.
I scooped up a bit and quickly set down the bowl which made the lady smile. She stopped smiling when I dug through my bag and pulled out one of the bottles of hot sauce while commenting that the rice was good but a bit mild for my taste.
When we left she smiled at us while handing me a small box holding more of the rice.
I think I will be going back to that store often.
