Anyone out there?

PS, it's ma 1st story..!!

How long have you given them? I know that Laurel (site owner) is either just finishing or still in the process of cleaning up the list. Some of them don't check mail daily, or even more often than weekly.

I'll give it a whirl. I promise to turn it around in 24 hours or less. I need to know what it is exactly that you would like though. Are you looking for just a proof-reader (spelling, typos, grammar, syntax, etc.) or more than that, such as character and plot suggestions. It's up to you, just let me know.

If you are interested, send it to: mr_neb@hotmail.com

Volunteer editors who don't respond

I contacted several volunteer editors in early April; I have yet to hear from most of them (one person did respond, and was very helpful -- thanks, Sybermistress). I contacted several VEs a few days ago: so far, I've heard back from just one of them.

I understand that they are volunteers who are often very busy. I understand that a particular person may or may not be able to help with a particular story. But I think that common courtesy demands at least a prompt acknowledgement to an editing request, and some indication of whether/when they can help with editing: I'd much rather get a reply saying "I won't be able to work on this for the next two weeks" than just silence. Or else they should just be up-front and say, in their bios on the Volunteer Editors page, "I only check my email once every other month, if you can't deal with that try someone else."

This might be helpful!! I have had the same problem in the past with VE's getting back to me, and so have others I have shared this problem with here! Give it a try again.

At least you found help!! :) VE's are very helpful!

I recall being written for my services. I received several requests while I was laid up in the hospital in excruciating pain while doing time as a younger, hipper, more bandage swathed version of Dr. Frankenstein's Monster. I also recall a very politely worded response turning people down because I was backed up and unable to get to them in a timely manner. I'm sure Cat~~ can vouch for this, I'm still trying to get through hers (I'm hurrying!). I also recall being written once again saying essentially thanks anyway.

I really hate when I'm accused of doing something I haven't done.

Awhile ago i went looking for a VE, my first here at Lit, for my *very* niche-oriented BDSM story. I read each VE's description to insure i wouldn't be asking someone to look at my BDSM story who was specifically excluding interest in such a thing. Then i sent a polite request out to about five VE's.

Two responded.

I got two notifications that no one was at home any more at that address. I never heard from the fifth at all.

I wrote to Laurel and forwarded the names of the VE's who were not at home anymore and contacted the two who answered with the additional information about my effort for which they had asked.

You're right, the VE's *are* volunteers. Many of them are highly skilled, too. Many are just hobby writers, like me. None of them owes you a thing, though, beyond the tenants of common courtesy.

If they've signed on as a VE, i think they have a responsibility to answer their email in a timely fashion.

If you've contacted a few VE's and gotten notification that some of them no longer reside at that email addy, then you have an obligation to notify Laurel so she can fix the VE file.

If you intend to contact a VE, read the instructions in their little VE blurb before you send off your email; maybe they told you to put something very specific in the SUBJECT line of your email, so they'll know it's from a Lit author-to-be. If you don't, they may not have seen your email and just deleted it with the rest of the junk like we all do every day.

The VE program here is a total absolute gem of a bennie for those of us who write (sometimes pretty badly, as it turns out!). Don't fuck it up by complaining and whining. Help to fix it and make it run more smoothly instead.

KM, I didn't mean to imply that you were one of the people who hadn't responded to one of my requests. Sorry if you read it that way. (IIRC, I haven't yet contacted you for editing help.)

Hope you're feeling better,

Ack, I'm snappish. My apologies for leaping directly to conclusions without bothering to pay attention to reality. Every once in a while an edit request slips through the cracks in my mind or I send two or three similar responses cause I can't remember if I'd replied yet.

*sigh* Bad Muffin. Bad, bad, bad.

You send I'll read

I've got some time over the next few days. Forward to me and I'll critique it. If it's good, I'll praise, if bad, I spank.... Best, WH

some VE's wont respond at all

some of the VE's won't respond probably because they're already busy reading someone else's stories. that's my theory. and if they don't respond for just because they're jerks.

I have noticed that some people (VE or otherwise,) have e-mail addresses that don't deliver mail in a timely manner. I often get e-mails that take as long as week from when they're posted until I receive them. Just recently, I got seven of my "daily jokes" at once after not getting any for almost ten days. The remainder of the missing ones eventually came in over the following week.

Any VE with a Literotica.org e-mail address is prone to this type of problem. It's not consistent enough to pin down, but I've had e-mails complaining about my not responding come in a day or two before the message I wasn't responding to.

Granted, there are a lot of VEs that aren't acknowledging requests, but not all of them who don't respond are at fault.
