Charlie Rose & Ahkmed Chalabi: For the Hour…
I watched this one twice, on two consecutive days, for clarification.
With Iraqi elections less than a month away and continual political pot-boiling from the Democrats concerning the basic reasons for the current war; it was a refreshing hour, listening to this Iraqi government official speak his mind.
Charlie Rose is a skilled and very experienced interviewer, but does not come without baggage as he approached the subject of the interview.
Mr. Chalabi displayed a fluency in English that few middle easterners do, even to the point of comprehending the subtleties of Charlie Rose and calling him on them.
Several times Mr. Chalabi noted: “You are wrong…that is incorrect…your assumption is faulty…” to Charlie Rose, his questions, his assertions.
One of the most interesting comments by Mr. Chalabi was that Weapons of Mass Destruction were present in Iraq and would be discovered hidden in Syria.
Another was his contention and evidence offered, that Saddam Hussein did indeed export terrorism from Iraq to other nations, Turkey, Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and others, prior to 1981 and after that time period.
Chalabi also confirmed that intentions of the current administration, stating that following coming elections and over the next year, the impetus would shift from insurgent terrorism and a stable Iraq would begin to alter the political structure of the entire Middle East.
Prior to this program, I had heard only sound bytes and second hand comments concerning Chalabi, it was a bit of an awakening.
Worth your time to track down a re-showing of the program.
