Character Chart for writers

I think these are all good and helpful things to think about during character development. Thank you for providing this list, so that we can get some more well-made, believable characters out there in storyland!

Thanks

As a fledgling writer, I wonder if there are any other tools or site that some of you more experience writers would recommend?

Thanks!

I have a character notebook for important characters that are going to last longer than a couple days writing. I go through old magazines at the library and cut out pictures of people who look like the character and I keep a couple of clothing catalogs on hand. Some of my characters come from family albums so I don't really need pictures.

The rest of the info I keep on index cards which makes it easier to find and a little more handy. Biographical data on one side, character traits on the other.

I have character sketches in a journal I keep daily, and those are part of the stories I write.

That page has too much information for me, though I think it would be helpful for others who may not have a system already.

characters with depth...

Neat chart.

I write fantasy shorts and have that "Great American Novel, that will never be completed" to work on as well.

I use "Building Believable Character" by Marc McCutcheon. I find several of The Writers' Digst Sourcebooks handy.

I have a huge naming book and use a site online to confirm or find different spellings. And, there is no mercy for anyone who touches my coppy of "Word Menu," no mercy!

I use books for certain periods of time as well.

Guess I have my own library. :)

That chart sure makes things right there for you to pick up with at a glance.

There might ba a sequel to my latest work. I regret not writing out the eye color etc. Now I have to read my own work. *ack*

thanks

The chart is pretty big but it is designed to be flexible. Sometimes I use the whoel thing and sometimes I use just a few tips from it.

As for more tools, I woonder what Laurel would think about possibly creating a little writers section where everyone could offer up tools and tips, etc?

Maybe character sheets, worksheets and tipsheets could be downloadable? Sample cover letters, how to write letters to editors, blah blah? I place to give advice and download tools.

Whatcha think Laurel?
