Hi, I just had my first story approved and I've already recieved four e-mailed comments. Three of them were very positive, and one was negative. The negative one was incredibly rude, but I expected that would happen, so I'm not letting it phase me at all. However he stated that the only reason he gave me a rating of one was because at the end of my story I put "End of Chapter 1" but I didn't put "Chapter 1" in my title. (I thought he was being ridiculously rude considering that's the only thing he didn't like, but oh well)

Now I was hoping to get a few opinions on this. Should I have put Chapter 1 in the title? I didn't think it was that important. Also I wasn't sure what to do because my first chapter falls into the lesbian category, but my second chapter involves the same two women, and also a man. So I'm not sure exactly what to do with it. Should I put it in lesbian to keep them together, or should I put it into group sex and label it chapter two? Or put it in group sex and give it a different title entirely?

What do you think? Thanks.

You've pretty much committed to making it chapter two by referring to the first as chapter one.

I'd also add an author's comment that this is a continuation and chaper one is in the lesbian category.

Use the same title when you submit, only add: Chapter 02 at the end of the title to make it clear that there was a chapter one.

Hi, P, and welcome to Literotica and the Author's Hangout. This is a very fun place to be, as you probably know if you have read any of the other posts.

I can't add much to what others have said about your question except to warn you that the titles are rather limited as to length so you may have to shorten the title somewhat to add chapter numbers.

Hi Porc, this is your story, I think you're allowed a little leeway to do what you want with it.:D

Don't let the negative feedback bum you out - I've read other posts on the AH where they have received feedback saying the story was great and they voted a 5, and hadn't voted at all. All kinds...

Anyway, I've never put Ch.01 on any of my stories - simply because I don't want there to be an expectation by the reader that there is going to be another chapter, when 2 months later it still hasn't been written (but it will happen). I often put a "To be continued..." sort of like some really bad soapie, but that's about it.

Congrats on the first story! :rose:

It' can be extremely frustrating for a reader who's expecting a complete story to find out at the end that there is no ending, and that they're to be left hanging until you get around to writing the next installment. I've received complaints about that myself, and I see their point. Some people are so adamant about refusing to read a multi-chapter work unless they're guaranteed that it has an ending that I now label the last chapter of a serial work as "The Last Chapter" rather than just giving it another chapter number.

I'm assuming that your story had a "To be continued" type of ending and wasn't a stand-alone story. You really should notify the readers of this at the start, either by indicating that this is only Chapter 1 or with a little author's blurb. Apparently you really pissed this reader off.

As for categories, probably anyone who's going to read a multi-chapter story will access the chapters from your member page rather than trying to hunt for them by category. I'm written serial works in which different chapters were in different categories and never had any complaints about it.

Thank you all for your replies. :) I really appreciate it. I think (if I can edit my story) I'll put a little blurb at the beginning of chapter one stating that it will be multi-chaptered, rather then just the little note at the end. I've almost finished chapter two and can't wait to get it up. Thanks again.

What Harold said. Always what Harold said.

Hi Porc,

My first story for Lit. was complete (so I thought) but there were so many tie-ups and characters left floating around I decided to do another. I always tried to make the stories stand by themselves so that there was no feeling of obligation or need to read previous or next chapters.

To this end, and fortunately having an apt title to start with I simply included the title of the first part "Nice Work" in brackets after the title of the current story eg "In Front Of Her Mum" (Nice Work)
