Chaotic Coffee Klatch (tea also available)

Cloud is just a term for a server farm somewhere and I believe everything can be hacked. There will be someone more IT savvy than me that could offer more info.

I use a NAS system, which is basically a system of hard drives to store all my photos etc
I have an external hard drive for my files including photos. Windows 11 made it almost impossible to find that back up path. The Windows conspiracy.

I use windows and don’t really have a problem. My NAS drive connects into my router and I work of it like it’s just a drive on my laptop.

@B2fromA2looking4U there are several parts in data safety - both keeping others out and getting to the data yourself. One is thinking what happens if there's a catastrophe at your house. Some recommend having backup both at home (like NAS) and somewhere physically elsewhere.

I know this comes from nowhere, but indulge my ignorance of how to back up Windows 11 and my lap top on the "cloud". Is this cloud safe?
that mostly depends on you. True hacks are rare and don't usually target individuals, especially individuals who are not really important, but they do happen. Now phishing, using the microsoft account and same password at questionable sites, is much more common. 99% of security is up to you. that 1% is a risk, but worth it to a large percentage of people. I personally do not use it for my personal devices, but do for my company devices, but that is because of my photos and videos, and number of devices I have that family will borrow. My concern isn't a dude blackmailing me for my chickens, it is creeping out my kid because he syncs and looks at my cloud 🤣

What is your opinion of Windows cloud?
I don't use Windows on my private laptop at all (I'm a Linux gal), so I haven't ever even considered it.

Now I am no IT nerd, I just know some basics. My own data backup is nonexistent, I just have some stuff I share or have shared in Google Drive, and then of course photos from phone going to Google Photos.

My main concern has been retrieving any lost or corrupted files. I figure I can always download an operating system from Microsoft. Some of my files are confidential from my small consulting business. So I think a local hard drive backup of files might be enough.
As for phishing, I get crazy emails from them all the time. Easy to block and report. Same is with phone and text but I use an app for that! LOL

I'm getting something to eat. I fancy something else I actually have, but with my budget there's no ordering a meal home.

Yes. Definitely not cool.
