Changing titles - stupid search function

I'm sure I saw something on this recently, but I've been back 12 pages and can't find it and the search function is refusing point blank to work for me.

Is it possible to change the title on a submission? I've got three stories that I put up months ago and I'd like to link them by title (seeing as they're all related). I know to edit a story you have to resubmit with "EDIT" in the notes and the title the same as the original. So, how do you seek a title alteration?

I don't know if it is even possible. I tried it once, but with a poem. I submitted it, and then went to my index in the usual manner. That's when I discovered the typo in the name. :( Instead of "You Get What You Pay for" it was "You Get What You Par for". I felt pretty dumb, but not worried, and quickly sent an edited version with the correct name and an explanation in the Notes field. Well, now it's included under both names. I should delete the one with the wrong name, but it has a higher ranking than the one with the right name. :(

You could probably delete the stories under their current titles and submit them again under the new names. They would then be treated as new submissions, and take a week to post and spend another week in the New Story queue.

I had a mistitle, all I did was PM Manu and Laurel and I got it changed to what it should have been.

It's spelled out in the FAQ section of Resources--but basically you need to submit the title change adding 'Edited' to the title and note the change you are making in the Authors Note section.

Good luck. ;)

OK, I've changed them doing the resubmit with EDITED in the title field thing.

I'll let you know if it works.

I've done it. Your best bet is to put the new title in the title field with an *edit* notation, and then note in both the story text and moderator sections that you're doing a title change *ONLY* Put the Lit ID# of your story in these notes as well, so there's absolutely no doubt which story you're retitling. List the old title and the new title. I noted that I wanted to retain the original keywords, description, votes, and comments as well.

More or less, spell it all out so that there's no room for confusion *laugh*

I have two in the queue right now that have text edits and a title change on them, and I've done this before without a hitch as well, following my formula.

You might want to PM Laurel. I goofed a title up when I submitted the story, and got her to correct it. I don't know about an existing story, but I can't really see it being much of a problem.

At worst you may have to resubmit the story with the new title, and have the old one pulled down.

Oops. Forgot about this.
It worked. Took about 6 days.
