We can do and change many things in our lives. However, we usually have to live with the first name bestowed on us by our parents. There are some theories that our given names can shape our lives and have a large influence on how we perceive ourselves.

If you could pick your real life first name, what would you choose and why?

When I played pretend when I was a kid...I'd always picked the names Michele and Samantha b/c they were pretty. I now know or know of too many crazies named Michele. lol

Samantha is still a pretty name.

I never wanted to change my name so much as the spelling. Scott.

Back in the day on a T.O. radio station was a DJ named Skot. For some strange reason in my youth I liked that.

I grew up as an SJ, but later on, everyone called me Scottie. I hated the spelling... so I took out a t.

Scotie. I liked the look of that better. *shrug*

I can't really imagine myself having a different real name to the one I've been given ever since I was born. I was given the opportunity long ago when I first arrived to the country I currently reside to change my real first name but none came to mind that I thought would suit me.

Besides, changing my name for something else other than what it is would not be me after all. Mine is unique in the country I live in, with a few variations in my home country in the way it is spelled.

I've gone by my second name before and then I've been comically called by my name in German. Also a childhood nickname which still stands to this day...and Kara. Someone thought I looked like a Kara.

I hate my name. I hate the way it sounds coming from my mouth. When I was younger I wanted my first name to be my middle name. I've always loved exotic sounding names, like Naima. I think i'd like to have that name.

I wouldn't change my name. My mom named me, and I'm rather attatched to it and it to me. Now, if my dad had of had his way, my name would be Henry, and I think I'd change that. I don't feel like a Henry.

Good answer! It's weird, my family calls me by my middle name and my friends call me by my first name. It's a good thing I like both. :)

If my dad had his way I would have been Elton

And he wonders why we don't get along.....

Heh, yeah. I was about to say Dad's shouldn't pick names.. but then I realized, I'm a dad, and my kids seem to like their names :p

Alexander...because it is a strong name...a conqueror's name...or my mother's maiden name which I may put forth for my own kid someday...son or daughter.

My parents picked my name because there are so many different variations on it. The idea was that as I grew up I could pretty much choose what I wanted to be called.
As it happens, all of my friends call me different things. I quite like it.
Other than the 'Sunday' name....I only get that from my mum when I've pissed her off.:D

When I was young I had an active imagination and many fantasies. In those fantasies, I play acted roles, but never used my own name which I considered bland. I often called myself Donna after an older girl in the neighborhood who was beautiful, bold and wild. Occasionally, I insisted my friends and family call me Melinda from a sophisticated character in a book.

Now, I believe some place names can make strong names: Phoenix, Sierra, Catalina.

However, if push came to shove, I would select something more exotic like the name of a great historical women warrior leader, like Zenobia or Boudicca.

I liked the name Elton when we were picking names for out son. :)

Growing up I was called one name, then in high school a guy gave me a new nickname that I still use. Both abbreviations of my full name. I like one better than the other.

I like the name Daisy, if I could change my name that would be a top choice.

Naima is beautiful. Also, the title of a John Coltrane ballad named for his first wife.

I want to be Buck Neutron. Or Ace "Kickass" Jackson. Or even Tommy "Tinderbox" McGillicuddy.

But you can bet that if I had been saddled with any of those names, I'd have been a superhero, a street fighter, a dirt track racer, or maybe a hot dog vendor!

I have an incredibly common name, but I've always liked more ethnic names. I've always loved Siobhan (though it'd be a bitch to spell/explain).

More than that I'd like to have a name that means something.

As a kid I wanted to be a comedienne/actress and thought the name Margot McGuire sounded wonderful!

Couple of them...

Janaki, Manjurika, Meghna,Radhika

Judy. Samantha, Victoria, Margaret

Yeah my stuffed animals got them all.
