that's the slogan for this year's pride celebration in san francisco. it's coming up and i'm outrageously excited. san francisco is a queer love fest (even more than usual!) these days. the san francisco international gay and lesbian film festival kicked off last weekend and will run until pride weekend (june 29 and 30).

the big parade is sunday at like 11 am. i've gone before and it is always incredibly fun. i'm going with a huge group of friends and together we make up every color of the queer rainbow (say it with me... lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning and straight allies).

this year i'm also going to the dyke march, which will be a first in lexie history. the dyke march is the night before the big pride parade. it is restricted to women only, though not just lesbians. to me it is a refreshingly "grass roots" type of activism in a city where people are, in my opinion, way too into the urban gay scene. there are no corporate sponsors, they do not obtain a permit and keep the march route secret until it actually begins. there are before- and after-march rallies (which welcome men, by the way). the slogan for the dyke march is "women for peace, peace for women"

so, do you care? is there a pride celebration in the city you live in or in one nearby? have you ever been? would you if you had the opportunity?

My mom always likes to tell the story of the gay pride event we drove by when I was a wee tot.

Apparently my only question was, "Why is that man wearing a wedding dress?"

:D

I don't remember it at all.

so much of my family is homophobic that i'm not even going to tell them i'm going to pride. hopefully i won't get on tv or anything :)

Go knock on wood quick. You know what will happen otherwise.

Funny you should mention that

I know a guy who accidently drove his semi truck in the Pride Parade. He didn't realize it right off, but his boss the next morning asked him about it, he has a very recognizable truck. It was pretty funny, him explaining to his boss the next morning as the boss saw it on TV.

What's the difference between "gay" and "queer"?

We don't have gay pride parades around here. Just Klan rallies.

"queer" is a blanket term, it can mean pretty much anything within the community. for example, man dating a male to female transsexual might not chose to identify as gay, after all he is dating a woman. a person like that could use the label "queer."

also, queer has a somewhat political connectation, so lots of gays, lesbians, bisexuals (like me!), etc like to use that term.

You're the best lexie. :D

I've gone to the pride parade on both coasts(Philly and WeHo), and I have to say it is so much fun. Its the closest I can come to being at Canival in Rio as I can get.

Being a staight chick who sits on the fence, I go because I can't say no to a party no matter who's throwing it.

i'm not sure what brought that on, but thanks!

Random act of kindness and you are cool and sweet so you should get more kindness thrown your way.

Pride week around here is later in the summer, I thought...maybe I'm off my rocker (which is entirely possible). I've never gone, due to work, but I know I'd have a blast.

I march with my best friend and boss Peter last year in the Buffalo Pride Parade. It was a blast. I wore a shit that had "An Open Mind Can't Hate" on it. He was having some trouble at work with our General Manager because of his orientation so I said that I would march with him, his boyfriends and a few other friends. I was the only straight man in the group but it made no difference because the whole idea is about acceptance.
We all need to relax and accept all people for they are all in the same struggle, for a happy life.
Take Care,

I saw somebody who's shirt said

"sexielexie" and some other stuff on it today.

It was homemade.
