Is it hard to have a recently published story moved to another category ?

Submit it as an edit, with a note to Laurel saying why you want it changed. She may or may not agree, depending on the content.

It won't get a run on the new category front page though, by the time it goes through.

Yeah. That. Laurel seems to keep tight reins on category preferences. I submitted one a couple of months ago to a category I perceived as appropriate, she moved it to LW, much to my chagrin.
