Chain Stories...

Just to set the record straight, if everyone on the first page of the top list were to be hit with one or two 1s, it would make a lot of damage to the ratings of those of us with 15-20 votes received.

The only thing that is obvious is that the stories that would come to the top would be those with 110+ or 430+ votes, like Intimate Confessions' and JUDO's, to whom a couple of 1s would do no significant harm.

Very good point.

My problem is that I suck at all these calculations...

I know my stories were doing really well and then I saw the rating drop, within 1 day, which made me realize that I was bombed. I am sure that I am bombed for good reason...some of my stories suck. It's just sad that this is done - :(

Ogg,

Neither you nor RF have announced the winner of the much-coveted Last Place in the recent Halloween Contest.

Is the announcement expected soon, or has somebody demanded a recount?

No one has claimed a lower score than me.

I am expected to come last with at least one of my entries to any competition.

It appears to have been a one-horse race.

As the one resposible for submitting the Snippettsville Group collections, which ended up in Chain Stories, I've kept some records of scores. I have the scores from October 30th, and I've just checked today. Most of the SG collections get ignored by most readers, so votes are low. Some of the averages were high. Not many, but some.

Comparing October 30 with today, all of the high-scoring collections have been hit, most of them by exactly two votes, one collection by three. Anything that was less than 4.50 is untouched. One, that had a score of exactly 4.50 has gained one vote and gone up to 4.54. Every collection that had a score of over 4.50 has been bombed. Methinks it was a H-bomber.

I have one story of my own in a chain. 'Lucy McFey', in the Talisman chain. That has gone from 4.61/102 to 4.54/105, which might be genuine voting. Too close to call.

One 5 and two 1s? ;)

Maybe. The math fits. Two bombers and a fan?

Looks like the same two bombs that hit everyone else on the list with 4.50 and above. The fan is business as usual. It's a very good story (of a phenomenal chain that should be required reading for everyone posting here) ;)

Three of mine got hit. Two of them dropped from a 4.6something rating to a 4.08. The other went from a 4.70 to a 4.40. Considering NONE of them have gotten any new votes in months, there's no way you're going to convince me they weren't troll votes.

Hi everyone! If you see a story - yours or anothers - that has suspicious-looking voting patterns, please do use the REPORT THIS STORY feature to bring it to our attention. In the OTHER field, tell us to check the voting. When you report suspicious voting this way, the system will send us a direct link to the story and make it much easier for us to check. Thanks again, and take care! :)

 When I started to read this thread, I wondered about the only chain story I have, except for some of the Snippetrsville Group stories. I went to the index and saw it listed at 4.23, but I remembered it as being ranked much higher than that. I went to my story index and saw it listed as 4.82 with 11 votes, as it has been for a few months. From a quick calculation, I could see that it had been hit by a pair of one-bombs but now I wonder. The authors' story indexes, as I understand, reflect the changes in voting immediately but the general index changes later. How, then would the general index be in advance of my index? Laurel, have you already deleted the one-bombs?

This morning, before I came to this forum, I checked my chain story. It still stood at 4.82 with 11 votes, just as when I posted here. When I went to the top lists, it was sitting there, tied for ninth place, and the stories ahead of it were all changed from last night. Apparently, Laurel scraped away the one-bombs,:D

My two have risen like scum to the heights again.

Thank you Laurel.

So, I'm looking at the top list and noticing that the ratings of the "Sibling Diaries" stories jumped up in the last couple of days, the same way as all the others. In fact, I noticed when this thread was started that JUDO's chapter 6 was in 4th with 4.66 from 86 votes, and now it's back at 18th with 4.75 from 84 votes, which means, if math isn't failing me, that Laurel cleared the same two 1 votes that had hit all other stories.

I guess that settles it. ;)

PS: I love your new first post, Dran. :D :rose:

Just chastising myself for flying off the handle before I was awake enough to know better. ;)

Oddly, my 'Lympics Day 20 has taken two more hits. I suppose I deserved that.

That sucks. :(

Use Laurel's technique and report it. It usually works. :)

LOL! Dran! :D

Very cool reporting of the facts there, Lauren. :)
