It was long assumed that all ley lines were the same. That however is not the case. Some lines of energy presumed to be ley lines are in fact bonds to hold the balance of mortal time. Sometimes however an event can if even briefly break or fray these bonds allowing ancient magics to mix with the modern age.

(Professor or student with some knowledge of ancient missing tribes who might recognize her necklace and it "tattoos")

He was having just your run of the mill day on campus until a strange purple crimson and silvery wave of some kind dashed across campus and then life became very interesting.

The battle had been long and intense but the first blade of the serpents soul would not be defeated. Her sword sliced through the last of the more monster than men soldiers of Feng Lao as a bright flash flooded the clearing in a ripple of amethyst and silver and strange arcs of power. When she could see again the clearing was gone replaced by strange tall buildings windows of glass people of more races than she could imagine all dressed so strangely and even more strange metal beasts and there she stood in... Was it some castle garden of trees flowers ponds that threw water into the air? She the first blade of the serpents soul swords still in her hands covered in blood she herself splattered with the blood of her enemies.

Chris's morning run started off like normal. He even saw some of the same people he usually saw in the mornings. He had just completed his first lap around the school's track when he heard a strange sound and noticed some bright flashes out of the corner of his eye. There was a girl in strange attire standing in the middle of the road. Was she insane?! Chris immediately started running over to her.

"Hey lady!"

Her eyes darted around wary of any possible attack. Swords ready to defend herself. She spoke in her native tongue... A long extinct mix of Tibetan and Mongolian.

What is this place sorcerer show yourself what spell is this!

Chris halted when he heard her speak. The last Time he'd heard that language....he shook his head and snapped out of his reverie. The crazed woman was still standing in the middle of the road. He calmly recalled the words in her language he needed to communicate with her.

"This is not a spell, or at least not one that I have cast. You are standing in the middle of the road. These metal carriages will crush you if you don't move out of the way." Chris replied calmly.

Slowly she moved over towards him right as a large delivery truck thundered past. Hissing she turned as if to attack it. People were gathering around many on cellphones and some taking pictures.

You speak my language.

She spoke again.

What is this place where that mongrel warlord and his vermin?

"I do." Chris replied as he took her hand and hurried her onto the sidewalk. "And if by warlord you mean Feng Lao then you will be glad to hear....he is dead. But his replacement is not much better. " Chris looked down and saw that he was still holding onto her hand. He dropped it quickly and looked away, embarrassed.

Her sword still in hand as she hissed.

Lead me to him I will end that scourge too.

She had not realized he held her hand her eyes still searching for possible enemies.

"Its not that simple. His replacement, his son, has built up legitimate connections in this world. His political allies will protect him, and I'm afraid even the serpent blade won't do much to protect you from a hollow point bullet." Chris said. There were so many questions he had for her, but first, he had to get her out of sight.

"Let's go back to my dorm. We can talk more there."

Nodding g she followed him researching the sword at her back for now.

So his son has taken over the lands from the queen? Then we failed.

She fell silent as she followed him.

Chris nodded his head gravely. "His son has taken over all of her Majesty's lands. He rules as a tyrant over the people. You're looking at the last of the small resistance." Chris informed her.

Show me to this resistance.

She looked to him hopeful. She wanted to believe but this strange world she did not trust.

They had arrived at his dorm without incident but Chris knew that that couldn't last much longer. Their time was short.

"The resistance is all but crushed. My Uncle was the last of our leaders to fall. That is how I even know anything about this...he died though before he could reveal everything to me." Chris revealed with a pained expression all over his face. "But my Uncle did speak of one last remaining sleeper cell, just waiting for orders. He seemed to think they were important....you wouldn't happen to know anything about that would you?" Chris asked hopefully.

No I know of nothing like that what is a sleeper cell. How long has it been? You seek to deceive me? Why?

She looked around the dorm things were far too different for any form of a few short seasons.

Be honest with me... How long has it been? Where did that strange light cast me?

"Judging by the fact that you speak a dead language as your primary language, I'd estimate at least 500 years. Could be more could be less. I'm not the expert my uncle was." Chris admitted. "But I can tell you that you are in Boston, Massachusetts. In A country called the United States of America."

"As for the sleeper cells...they are kind of like spies that you send into enemy Territory and they blend in and when you're ready to activate them, they carry out their mission from behind enemy lines. "

500...

She sat down hard on a chair.

Yet you k ow my language how?

She was trying to take it all in and toyed with the serpent necklace around d her neck

Chris glanced at her necklace and gasped. "You possess the amulet?!" He exclaimed. "My Uncle spoke of this constantly during our lessons. That's how I learned your language by the way. He said our family belonged to an ancient order dedicated to stopping the likes of Feng Lao. Learning your language and various other things was part of his training.

Chris took a hesitant step forward. "May I see it?"

She moved her hand. The necklace that marked her as first blade of the serpents soul had never left her neck since she was a child and the jungle vipers venom did not kill her.

Take me to this... Uncle.

"I can't." Chris said, grief filling his eyes. "He was killed last year in an ambush. Yun Lao, Feng's heir set us up and my uncle died saving my life. His last words to me were 'find the amulet. It can help you defeat him.' I didn't understand what he meant till now. The last of the amulets disappeared...well 500 years ago actually."

Chris began to pave the width of the room. "We need answers, but I'm not sure how to get them. I have an idea but..."

His heir has lived for nearly 500 years? I... I do not understand?

She was getting edgy again. Suspecting a trick or trap her eyes watched him intently.

"Its the ley lines. He did something to them....you do know what they are right?" Chris asked. He didn't really think they had time for him to explain the basics to her, but it would be much easier if she actually understood his explanation. "He found a way to twist their power to his will. His body has ceased to age."

The sorceress didn't die...

She hissed at this. Still cautious of this being a trick. Such modern things would not belong to common people if her time still held sway. Inventions were kept to the royal families.

"She did die. That was about the only thing the resistanceachieved." Chris said as he stopped his pacing. "Truth is, magic has lost its hold over the world. Technology and countries that are able to bring it to bear are what rule the world nowadays. " Chris explained.

"If we want to defeat Yun Lao, we need to return to my uncle's hideout. He was...a modern day sorcerer of sorts. Although he just used to say magic is just unexplained science. Anyways, we need to return to his hideout and see what we can dig up about your amulet and why his last words to me were to find it."

She nods.

Then why do we stay here let's go.

Chris nods his head and walks over to his closet and opens the door and turns to face the warrior woman.

"My Uncle didn't teach me much, but he did teach me a few spells. One of those is the "Here, then there spell. " Chris started. He went over to his desk and withdrew a piece of chalk and then walked over to his closet. First He pushed all the clothes to one side. Then he drew three overlapping vertical ovals. He began to chant inA different language.

As he chanted, the ovals began to glow. When the glowing subsided, they were standing in a completely different room,

Sword drawn again as she tensed looking around. She was a warrior and held little trust of magic.
