I've seen the pictures of Melbourne, where kids are surfing in the streets. There's said to be more than 18" of rain there; gopherwood's on backorder at Home Depot. I've got friends in Brevard County; I haven't heard from them yet. Here in Jacksonville, where Fay is supposed to visit next, it's very rainy and blowy. All city offices have shut down; some of the bridges (we have 7) have also been shut down. JTA (the transit authority) suspended its services at 5:00 yesterday. My workplace sent us home at 2:30.

How is everybody doing?

Here in Indian River County (Vero Beach, et al) we are soggy, still getting rain, but no real structural damage to my knowledge. Trees are down, palm fronds and tree limbs are everywhere and some neighborhoods are still flooded. We had gusts up to 50 mph at times and driving rain constantly. Here at my home two clerestory windows leaked, several palm fronds were broken and some overlooked yard art was damaged. I never put up my storm panels.

Good luck ST and stay safe.:rose:

It's now raining loudly. A few minutes ago I walked out onto my front porch with a glass of sauvignon blanc to see how things were going, and it rained into my wine so I went back in again.

We're supposed to come to work as usual tomorrow. Well, at least since the city's shut down I'll be able to park near the building without feeding a meter.

Keep an eye peeled for sudden accumulations of water when you're driving. Some poor soul in Palm Bay rounded a corner, hit a flooded spot and the water went up to his car's roof. He couldn't open the doors and the power windows shorted out. He kept hitting the buttons until one came open and he swam for it. Bye car. :(

Here in West Palm we seem to have dodged the bullet. 10 inches of rain and some wind as well as a tornado but that's it. My place came through without a problem.

My parents have a place in Melbourne, Palm Bay and I'm still waiting to here if it flooded out. Last I heard, last night, the water was six inches below their flooring on their trailer but they were forecast for another ten inches.

I'm sure I'll be heading up there next week to check for damage.

On another note we have been dealing with Thunderstorms and heavy rains here since Fay went through. Not sure if they are because of Fay or just our normal summer weather. The high winds though do suck, make it hard to ride the bike even when it isn't raining.

It's probably Fay; I talked to my mother tonight, and she said that it's even affecting things where she is, and she's in Houston.

I don't live there now, but I grew up in Merritt Island, Fl, Brevard County
I really feel for everyone there...my brother lives in Titusville.....he's flooded.

Tampa's OK. Been some passing driving rain, but thats about it.

When I finally had a chance to look at my cell phone, I saw that I missed a call From Gianna. Hope she's OK.

I'd give har a call right now, but I pretty sure it wouldn't be a good time. LOL

I'll call in the AM.....ummm...later in the AM that is.;)

Haven't talked to Mae...or checked the maps to see if she is really affected...

Think I might call her in the morning just to be sure.

Just talked with my father. He talked with his next door neighbor in Melbourne. The waters had reached almost two feet in their park when it stopped rising. According to him the water level dropped something like eight inches last night.

Oh his neighbor saw some Catfish swimming in the street.

The north part of Fay went through here yesterday. Of course, I had to go to work. I didn't mind since with the city closed down I got to do some of my other stuff and it'll give me a bit of a break further on down the road.

It was a strange day. We had a skeleton crew, as some people couldn't come because of being flooded, having no power, and in some cases there was nothing for them to do once they got there. The boss brought his dog, a quiet, well-mannered Lab bitch who thoroughly sniffed the place out. Someone had brought donuts from Publix and when I got one, she looked at me appealingly, but her daddy said she couldn't have any. Then she followed me upstairs and sat a foot away from my desk, looking appealing, with drool starting to drip from her jowls; but when I didn't give her any she got up and walked away.

A leak developed near the layout guy's desk. A wastebasket was put down. Later the Admin came in with her kids and when she unlocked her office and went in, she found water dripping from the ceiling onto her computer. We rolled the computer desk out from under it. I got a wastebasket from one of the editorial guys' cube to catch the drip, and turned her keyboard upside down. The ceiling tile above was distorted and bulging. She got up on a chair and stuck a pencil in the tile and water came down in a pencil-sized stream.

I went back to work and was able to work until about 12:30, when I was unable to access the city website due to water getting in our wiring, and after that the boss sent us all home.

Parts of the street I'd been on coming into town had become flooded. I stopped at a BP on the way home because my tank was almost empty and got $25 worth of gas. It was raining sideways and I got all wet. When I got home I stopped the car at the mail boxes to get the mail rather than park in the yard first and then walk across as I usually do. I got more wet. But a small birthday package I'd been expecting from my mother was in the mail, so it was worth it.

I parked the car at the house and got out. Just before I got on the porch the wind everted my umbrella. A young waterfall was between me and the porch on account of the way the gutter is always pulling away from the roof, and I passed under it with my everted umbrella, which I then dumped next to the porch.

The wind was blowing strongly enough to pull at the front door; I kept thinking my husband was about to come in, but it was the wind pulling at the door and making it thump in the doorframe. And then he did come home; his work had let him out early, too.

Today there was supposed to have been a Sunday school social at the beach, but I'm not sure it's happening, even if the beach is opened back up. Too bad; they say the shelling is always better after a storm, and Jax Beach has never been known for its shelling most of the time.
