What sort of creature lives a hundred years?

[props to Byron: I thought about posting this piece after reading the story in the paper this morning...then thought most might not care or might get negative simply because I posted it...then I saw your Centipedes and couldn't resist.]

The Census Bureau estimates there's 114K centurians alive in the US this new year; in 2050 the projection is there will be over 600K...

...like Dick Wachter:

"He’s not a churchgoer, but “I’m religious in the sense that I respect that Jesus was the Son of God,” he said. “While I don’t go to church, I still respect that.”
He smoked three packs a day for 60 years, until one day in 1993 he said, “Enough,” and quit."

So there's hope for us ex-smokers and fools who believe that Christ is the son of the living God...:D

What struck me most was how well most of these folks look after 100 years on this crazy planet earth.

Good stuff

These are all fascinating characters well worth reading about. The age old question: too what do you owe your long life? Has only one real answer, the luck of the draw.
