Censorship on the bdsm forum?

Is the moderator of the bdsm forum allowed to delete threads he/she doesn't like or do they have to break the "rules?" How could a thread disappear if a moderator didn't delete it- is there some other way?

Last night, I posted to Lance's thread with a title something like "Should Cym shut the fuck up?" He said something nice in the thread about Misstaken as he attacked Cym. Then, he said this in Misstaken's thread about "switching" on the bdsm forum:
Lancecastor said:

MissT was two faced with me...when caught and confronted with it, she *shrugged* it off. Though I bear no ill-will towards her, I can't say I consider her my friend anymore. I'm not surprised to hear Cym relate a similar experience and therefore expect MissT is the same with most people. Smiling at people to their face then disparaging them behind their back is a most unseemly trait.

My question to Lance was whether he actually agreed with Cym after all. Seems Lance says he likes and agrees with Misstaken in one thread and an entirely different thing in another. Which is the truth and which is the lie?

Even though his original thread where I posted that question to last night seems to have disappeared, I'd still like Lance to have the opportunity to answer the question.

It's entirely possible that both are the truth, Cheyenne. A person can change their mind, be swayed, or misinterpreted by the reader.

And crying "censorship!" just feels petty to me.

i, as usual, have no idea what's going on and missed out on the whole story, so i'm not taking sides here.

but the mod's job for this forum is to keep the topics focused on the subject. BDSM. any of the personal threads and the like should, perhaps, be posted in the gen. board or just dealt with in pms.

like i said, i'm ignorant of the situation so i'm not claiming to know who's right, but if a thread was removed because it didn't deal with BDSM, then that's not censorship or anything personal, just one of the rules.

I believe it should have been moved days ago then when Lance first started the missing thread. There hadn't been any posts to it for 3 days when I posted to it last night. Why wait until my post to delete it?

Moving it to the general board would also have been different than deleting it all together. Moving it I have no problem with. Eliminating it though is where the censorship question came from.

My speculation - purely speculation! - is that the moderator had forgotten about the thread (or let it slide when it first turned up, even though it was off-topic) and was reminded of it by your post.

That would work IF it had been moved to the general board. But it wasn't, it was completely deleted. There is a huge difference between the two.

Look C,

Cym's accusatory thread and a couple related ones were deleted--AFTER a lot of nastiness towards the mod over several days. Doesn't sound like censorship or --improper moderation-- to me.

Has it occured to you that your little bit of pot stirring just happened on the last days or hours of the threads? They were, iow, headed for ultimate deletion, and likely it was nothing personal.

[Added: I see all the threads have not yet been deleted--as Sexy C says-- but I believe they will be.

They are all, imo, deserving of deletion as off topic and baseless personal attack.]

If you want to gossip with LC (and he with you), have you considered PM? Then you can say all the nasty things you like about anyone you consider not so upstanding as yourself.

OK, there's the audience you want. Hmmm. How about a kind of email list "Have your knickers in a twist? Someone putting on airs? Wearing the same dress to H.S as you? Copying your hair? Being so _not_ cool?"

Those so inclined can share all the gossip they want. Then for a wider audience post a weekly digeston the general board, "Those who displease us who matter, and why they're stupid bitches." That should give you the audience you want.

As far as I'm concerned the whole thread had nothing to do with BDSM and it's high time the damn thing was deleted, and I applaud MissT for finally doing so. It was nothing but a vehicle for flaming and bullshit sniping.

If you have a question you'd like to ask Lance, Cheyenne, why don't you PM him?

Frankly, this whole subject is over and done with.

It is my belief that this Forum is sick of it.

IMHO, we don't need someone from the GB coming over here dredging it up.

Thanks for dropping by, you want to join in a BDSM discussion, there are many threads to choose from.

*walking away in disgust*

In all honesty, none of the other threads have been deleted. Apparently only the one Lance started with his poll no longer seems to be around anymore. It does strike me curious that one thread that Lance started would be deleted and another that cymbidia started with nothing but malice directed at a moderator would be allowed to stay on the boards.

I could understand that the threads that were inflammatory being deleted. Who wants that? But it is curious that only this one thread disappeared.

Chey, I would suggest that MissT can clarify what happened to the thread. There might have been other factors behind the scenes that necessitated its removal that we don't know about. Unless/until knowing all the facts it really is difficult to determine whether actual censorship took place. There could be a very valid reason why Lance's thread is no longer there.

And for those who are suggesting that Chey PM Lance? I would say it's a safe bet that's just not gonna happen.

Sexy C noted that some threads remain, including Cyms

and says
//But it is curious that only this one thread disappeared. //

Well, here is my theory. Miss T, NOT being inclined to censor was just going to let these pieces of shit sink to the bottom of the bowl. Then comes Ms Shy End, and--unable to let things rest-- gives one a nudge to bring it up to the surface. So it's zapped.

fwiw

I hope they're all flushed soon.

I would like to ask why do you post here? You do not care about BDSM, so why do you care one way or another whether there is censorship in this forum?

Maybe your purpose is to stir shit. If you really wanted Lance to answer the question, you could PM him.

Or maybe not. In either case, have at it.

I posted a similar thought on this thread on the GB. As the only reason for her post was shit-stirring (as she admits on the GB thread), I guessed that MissT felt it would be distracting to discussions of BDSM.

It seems that we get our share of visitors from the GB when there is a rumor that shit is stirring in the BDSM Forum. Must be a slow week on the GB.

I personally do not see why MissT has to answer to Cheyenne or any other person dropping in from the GB.

Ok, NOW I am done with this subject!

Censorship?

No. An oversite on my part?

Yes, the thread should have been removed at it's commencement, but wasn't as I was distracted by real life and other things on the forums.

No, not censorship. If I were censoring all of the rough things thrown my way lately, there are several threads that would have been removed or moved, however, they all have some BDSM content. The lit guidelines clearly state that off topic posts will be moved. This is a BDSM forum. The thread had no BDSM content.

If anyone feels that the thread should have been moved to the General Board, and yes, I can see where that may have been the better choice, feel free to pm Laurel and ask her to move it. Moving it from there is beyond my mod capabilities.

The thread was moved to the Mod Queue and a pm has been sent to Lance explaining why.

To that end, if this thread doesn't get back to the topic of BDSM. this thread will be moved to the GB or the Mod Queue.

If I'm not mistaken, and I may very well be since I can't go back and review the threads since they are gone, but, I think they were two separate issues, Cheyenne. One was Lance relating the way MissTaken treated him. The other was him defending her right to do what ever the hell she wants in her experimentation with BDSM. Two completely separate issues.

Nice try though. Toddles.

One thread was strictly off topic, Lance's.

Cym's "Honesty in Moderation" thread, while not pleasant for me personally, was to some degree along the same lines as some of the forum assessment type threads I start.

IMHO, if you don't want flame wars on the forum, ignore the instigators.

Let's stick to BDSM.

*laughing* I'm sorry, but I don't think you can compare the two threads. Virtually the entire board population, here and at the gb, rallied behind Miss T because of cym's attact. She couldn't have paid for better PR! :D

 You know I like you, Miss T. Just had to point that out.
