Sorry this has nothing to do with erotica i promise to make it up if you wish but, i really need help in buying a few cell phones (family pack) i need to get one but wonder if it would be smarter, safer and easier to get four for everyone instead of just me buying one, cause i know everyone would be using it. My sole purpose is to stay in contact when i'm touring and playing shows but also be able to call my friends and "friends" without it showing up on my home phone seeing as i don't live alone, i don't call 1-900 numbers and don't intend to but friends out of state i've met online. I was thinking about the Sprint PCS family pack of four but i can't find a price for them anywhere, i was wondering if anyone here had a family pack cell phone deal they'd recommend? thanks

I have sprint pcs family deal. Love love love sprint. JMO, though :D

Another satisfied Sprint PCS customer! No, I don't work for Sprint, but I just love them too! I'm so happy with my cellphone and the service. Hehe. I've been with them since ... 1999 and have switched a few times only to find myself switching back.

You don't have to subscribe to a family deal. You can get 4 phones and just make sure you have the Unlimited PCS to PCS option. My whole family has Sprint and we don't have the family plan but we can talk as much as we want because we have that option.

Just something to think about. :)

I too am a satisfied Sprint PCS customer. I have the 300 minute plan plus the PCS to PCS calling and find myself never going over my minutes as everyone I tend to call is on Sprint as well. definitely a good deal.

Well ... pfffft to you Sir Brian. How come I don't have your number? ;)

LOL!

I agree. My friends and my family are Sprint customers and so I never worry about them. I have a slightly bigger plan because my cell phone is my only phone.

Because you never asked for it :p

Mine too is my only phone, but then again, I make very few phone calls.

Heya. :)

While touring, my ex-boyfriend found that Verizon Wireless worked best for the best coverage. I think he got coverage everywhere but certain places out west (which he rarely travelled to anyway) and, for some reason, Texas. You have to be careful of roaming charges...those will bite you SO fast.

I have to be the voice of dissent here...I always had problems with Sprint, from the get-go, and never got those problems resolved. I even have problems NOW that I don't have Sprint anymore, because for some reason I have real difficulty calling Sprint phones from a land line.

The ex and I didn't have a family pack plan, though, so I can't help you there.

Ok... so there is one person I talk to that is not on Sprint, but she's special.... ;)

I will also say that if you aren't near the interstates or in a heavily populated area, you will have problems with Sprint coverage. They do not offer free roaming in any of their packages, but instead want you to pay $10 /mo to get extra minutes just for use while off the Sprint network.

Is that so?

Be careful for what you ask for! :D

Hmmmmm, I have a friend who lives in Oklahoma and he doesn't have a problem with coverage there and he's a Sprint customer. He travels to Texas quite often and there will be spots in which the reception is crappy, but it's few and far between.

As far as the roaming goes, I never ever had to pay charges even when I travelled. Heh.

A friend of mine, who is a Sprint customer once said, that when she meets new people or start dating someone new, she'll have to ask who they have their cellphone service with! LOL!

Have had Sprint PCS since 2001 with no problems, but I have never had to roam. Still have my original phone and I am still paying my contract deal despite the fact that I am off contract and there are better ones out there. Dumb

Some consumer study claims that Verizon has the best overall service.

You cant really ask opinions about every carrier because you will always hear terrible stories about extra charges, bad coverage, and terrible customer service. I would recommend Verizon, T-mobile, or sprint PCS. I think Sprint PCS will probably be the most expensive ( phones through sprint generally cost the most) and you will get less minutes than Verizon. Verizon is the largest and best overall company in terms of customer service and nationwide coverage. If you are willing to sign a 2-year agreement, you will most certainly get a price break on your phones. T-mobile is an outstanding company if you know where you are travelling. While they dont provide any roaming coverage ( just Digital GSM) they offer the most minutes for the money and the cheapest phones. You could get 4 phones on a plan for as little as 49.99 for the first 2, then add 10 bucks for each additional line. If you know you travel to major cities and your home coverage area is inside a T-mobile service area, then you should strongly consider them. If T-mobile doesnt work for you, GO VERIZON.

For a short stint there, I had Verizon. I was unhappy with the coverage that I got even though the price plans were certainly very reasonable.

My brother had T-Mobile and it just plain SUCKED. There were so many dropped calls and he couldn't wait until his contract was over. He switched to Sprint and has been happy since.

I know some people who have T-Mobile and they are very happy with them. I also know people who have Cingular and are happy with their service. I guess the trick is to talk to the people who live around you and see who they have their service with and how happy they are with them.

I'm a bit shocked that no one mentioned Nextel. I know that this is very popular with businesses and in fact, it seems to be the carrier of choice in an industry that I want to break into. I too, had tried Nextel once upon a time and it SUCKED as well. LOL!

Good luck!

yeah... it basically comes down to service areas. You always have between 14-30 days to try out a service to see if it will work for you. I just assume that if T-mobile works well in the area you need then it would be the best one to go with.. ( most minutes, decent coverage, and cheap phones)

I've had Sprint, and I hated it! Every time I turned around I seemed to be roaming in spite of the fact that I hardly ever left my hometown. Also, for being a nationwide plan I seemed to get hit with alot of extra charges.
We had Verizon for our calling plan with the phones we use at work and they seem to be alright in terms of cost efficiency, but the quality of the calls is awful. We get static something terrible and a few times we end up hearing the ghost of another Verizon caller in the background of our calls.

Right now I'm with T-mobile, and I love them. I went from KY to NY and never roamed. I never had a dropped call, and never got tagged with a single addittional charge above and beyond my plan. T-mobile has a great coverage area- at least from where I am in the country- and they have very reasonable plans. My plan for example is 600 anytime minutes and unlimited nights and weeekends for $35 a month. I got my phone free with a 1 yr. contract, but the phones I have seen thru T-mobile are reasonably priced as well.

T-mobile

I've had T-mobile since back when they were Voicestream, and loved them all the while. I get helpful human beings when I need someone on the phone, they've let me upsize & downsize my rate package without renewing any annual contract, and when I dropped my phone & it died, I just called up, said, my phone screen is not working, they shipped me a new phone for free within 3 days.

Maybe I'm just special.

I've gotten fine reception with them in and around DC, MD & VA, down to FL with no roaming charges... up in rural northwest PA, coverage is sketchy, but I don't get up there very often, and when I do, I really don't want to be reachable.

Happy hunting!

t- mobile here as well. I've been delighted with their coverage, but more importantly to us anyway, the customer service has been superb! Any time I've had a question, no matter how simple or complex, I've gotten a prompt and professional response with t-mobile. When we had Sprint our coverage was acceptable although we found call quality to be quite poor. Our problem with Sprint was the awful customer service. When my husband had his phone run over- no fault of his own somebody accidentally knocked his phone off an outdoor table into a parking space where it was summarily run over!- he tried to have it replaced and Sprint was going to charge him the $200 early termination fee on his now destroyed phones contract and make him get a new one and pay for a new phone. All in all charging him nearly $450 to replace a phone he got for free by joining Sprint! We dropped them soon after and haven't looked back since!
T-mobile fans here all the way!:)

I'm a Sprint fan, having had one and sold them when I was stateside, before I joined.
Was the Assistant manager for a Radio Shack so my views are colored by that.

Phone costs- yeah, Verizon phones seem cheaper, but that's because Verizon is covering up to $200 of the phone's cost to make it seem like a bargin. If you want to change phones before your contract is up, you have to pay the additional $200 for the phone (this is last I knew in '03, they may have changed it since).
Spring- yeah bit more expensive, but they tend to carry a lot of Samsungs, one of the best phones I've found. VERY sturdy (dropped my MP3 phone down two sets of concreate steps on night by accident- still worked great, just a bit of scratching). And Sprint's Cust service people, in my experiance, are nicer and more helpful.
Sprint also doesn't charge roaming as long as your on thier PCS network. If you've got a dual mode (analoge/digital) and you switch to analoge then yeah, you'll pay roaming. Long as your on the Sprint PCS network though, all's good.

I have to concur with the fact that unless you are near an Interstate (or a major Railroad line --little known fact about Sprint cables) your coverage is basically shit, especially in the upper midwest and moutain areas.

I have US Cellular..As a company they are pretty compatible with Verizon (have had both) ...honestly they both suck the big dick as far as I am concerned, not because of coverage and drops, although I have to give the nod to my US Cell phone there when I traveled to the east coast and deeeepp sweet ice tea south I never had a reception problem except in Alexandria, VA but I think the CIA had something to do with that.

Thier plans are similar but customer service and most salespeople suck the big dick and can't tell a phone that can download ring tones from a zit on their ass.

Shop around plenty before you buy. KNOW exactly what you are signing and how much overtime minutes cost..I'll garanfuckingtee you that the first time that $600 + cell phone bill shows up you'll shit yourself like an old woman who has eaten too many grapes. And then when you have bucked it up and paid those outrageous fees for four months some "new kid" in sales will look at you and say "who sold you this piece of shit contract anyway?" "There is another way to do it so you only pay half that amount or 1/3rd even".

If it is all about talk time make sure you get a phone that you can charge while talking on. I have gone from the phone pack to the great but lousy batteried Nokias to my Motorola flip which is awsome..I can usually talk for three hours without recharging and wont drop a call if I plug it in while I am on it (Important if you have your pants around your ankles and are about ready to blow the lid off the jar). Shop Shop Shop around...

Ok..end of rant....good luck

FF

I think a lot of the decisions onthis depends on where you plan on travelling to and what the coverage is like in your area. Each area is unique. I've had Verizon & AT&T and each has its good areas and bad. I really wish they'd just all jump back to the days when the phone company was a monopoly at times- it'd be so much easier!
