I tried to watch the announcement on Fox News, but I couldn't get past the theme music and the disco lights.

Literally wrote the Starr Report; then once he was working in a Republican White House, said he now believed a President should be completely immune from investigation.

That's intellectual dishonesty on a level rarely seen outside of Planet AJ.

OK, where can I find this gem where Kavanaugh believes "a President should be completely immune from investigation."

He said "I believe it vital that the President be able to focus on his never-ending tasks with as few distractions as possible." A view he came to, I repeat, after his Starring role in the biggest presidential distraction of the last 40 years.

I doubt Trump needed to know anything else about him.

it's a shame that a sitting president who is under investigation is allowed to appoint someone who could have a hand in the outcome of said investigation.

He is a turd but what should we have expected? He is Tricky Trumpy nominee - so we get the government we deserve.

We need the Senate Dems to grow a pair and dig in. (un-bloody-likely)

He is the dumb fuck that hounded Clinton for years and wrote the Star report, dug in and professed that Bill Clinton should be impeached both for "lying to his staff and misleading the public," and then did a complete about face.

It's an interesting discussion:

What if the President pulled out a gun and blew the brains out of someone... Would he (or she) have to be impeached before being arrested, charged and convicted?

On the other hand, political opponents could keep a President busy responding to nonsensical lawsuits of he (or she) were subject to legal process while sitting

The Scotus is all Jews and Catholics.

(Gorsuch was raised catholic, now claims to be nominally Protestant)

Kavanagh had his childhood Priest in the audience, so if there’s a silver lining, he should be open to deviants in his rulings.

Anybody who openly associates themselves with organized religion, does it for one of two reasons:

1. They are lying about believing all that nonsense and are using it to further a political/professional career.

2. They are bat shit crazy and actually believe all that nonsense.

An educated person, who has risen to the top of their profession falls into category 1 and I'm generally ok with someone that can fool those they need for support.

I see it more as a change issue.

The USA was founded and (until recently) run by WASPS.

The demographic shift away from a wasp run America began after Reagan.

Forget politics, and look at the usa before and after say 1985, whenever power and influence in wasp america started changing in a meaningful way.

Completely different country.

I’m not picking sides or judging, just noting the difference.

What’s interesting is that that 30% or so that “they” call trump’s base matches up with the 30% or so of americans who identify as Wasps.

And all this time I thought there were 9 Supremes.

When will Rory be here to call Kavanaugh a deplorable?

Point of clarification. The US legal system is entirely based on the Judeo-Christian ethos. That's how the country was founded and that's how it is yet based. The supreme law of the land is the Constitution. That supreme law applies to everyone regardless of race, creed, or culture. We attempt to do that evenhandedly while acknowledging past transgressions. We are imperfect and are evolving.

That being said what other ethical system should our law be based on? It's not a trick question and there is no real wrong answer. My point is simply that no matter what system you choose I, and others, can point out multiple serious flaws. Particularly when it comes to the expression of individual liberty.

Sharia Law!

Insallah!

Or law based on the presumption of guilt.

Or on the forbidding of all private property and/or inheritance.

Pick your poison.

I tend to agree with the nub of this post, except to suggest that the judeo part of the judeo Christian label is in and of itself illustrative of the way American protestant Christianity tends to be fairly open to other belief systems.

I think the wasps gave away the farm to some degree, which is in the nature of the giving side of that faith tribe.

There was never a more tolerant place for the individual than the USA, but tolerance doesn't require bowing down.

When in Rome, do as the Romans. Maybe Wasps should have insisted upon more of that thinking, but the horses have long since left the corral on that one, for the most part.

All the time I lived in Washington, I never met a single person who went to Georgetown Prep. Now two of them are going to be on the Supreme Court.

The US legal system is not based on "Judeo-Christian ethos". Whatever the fuck that 1940s/1950s bit of sophistry was meant to imply.
