Is anyone else watching this?
It's like a train wreck, can't turn away and call me naive but I keep thinking they are going to find the person on "the other end" is going to be just who they said they are!

Are you kidding me? MTV is still around? Seriously?

I like the show, but it seems fake. I've always thought the original documentary was fake as well.

I'm convinced that Catfish is the only reality show that has an ounce of integrity. If it's fake, I don't wanna hear about it. Same goes with the documentary, as I was all glued to my seat and stuff while watching it.

I'm not sure about the TV show, but there are two things that make me question the documentary. First was the fact that they started filming Nev's "romance" from the beginning. Why? Obviously, he was still talking to the woman as if he believed she was who she said. Why film someone talking to someone else online unless you suspect that something is amiss? Second was the eponymous "catfish in the fish tank" speech by the woman's husband. That struck me as very scripted, because I find it difficult to believe that that man would be capable of producing such a profound and succinct soliloquy that so perfectly capped off the film.

It all could be real, but I have some serious doubts. The crew obviously had a motive for trickery; they're big names now.

I was under the impression that initially, the objective was to make a documentary about Abby. They thought she was a really gifted young artist, so it's not a stretch that they researched her and her family or filmed conversations with them. That's my take, anyway.

The speech did seem contrived, and I know a lot of other filmmakers have called the doc a really well-done fake, but I want to believe.

It's becoming obvious to me that your various body parts are not getting the required attention.

See, Catfish intrigues me because it's about 2 people falling in love over the internetz. I could make my own documentary with a very similar beginning, but if I were to keep the cameras rolling all the time now, my little film would become a hard core porno, because SEX. So much of it. So much of the sex.

Thank you Literotica and the internetz.

It's hard to say, really. The only one on the TV show that seemed really fake so far was the jet set underwear model/teenage lesbian. That was clearly a young woman's voice. I guess it's dangerous to underestimate human stupidity, though.

Worst case, it's all fake, but it's still entertaining, which is more than can be said about most television and movies. If it is real, I feel sorry for some of the people on both ends.

Yeah, I agree. On all points. The episode with Matt (I think that was his name) has been my favorite so far. He seemed like a really sweet guy.

Yeah, and he wasn't really dishonest with her.

I felt kinda bad for the last girl (can't remember her name). She wasn't the person in the pictures, but the guy was still unnecessarily assholish to her. Yeah, she lied to him, but it was still her that he "fell in love" with. If you ask me, he fell in love with the photograph first and the personality second, if at all.

I haven't seen the most recent episode. I hate that it airs so late at night.

That made me sound really old. :(
