A young man and an older woman meet on a cruise, both on the rebound, and a sexy affair ensues, with plenty of hotness and some kink. As the trip nears the end, they begin to wonder if there's more here than just a summer fling, and a romance begins.
So erotic couplings, mature or romantic?
Although there are 15 years between them it's not much of a factor in the story beyond that, the characters don't even question it. For 90% of it, it's just a sexy story, the romance isn't until the end. I'd like to reach the readers looking for something like this. I'm leaning toward romance.

Erotic couplings would be fine, you shouldn't have to limit it to Mature unless that's a very strong element of the story.

Mature. The age difference is what they want, and I can tell you from experience, that crowd enjoys a good romance. Its your best bet. For proof, years ago I asked this same question of Reject Reality who suggested Mature. That story currently has 12438 votes. My other mature romance has 8100 and both are over 4.8.

I'd put it in mature. It doesn't sound like a romance, which usually has relationship first and sex second.

Mature. They can appreciate a good romance just as much as the Romance readers, and you get the bonus of specifically targeting the May/December kink as well.

Outstanding. Thanks very much. That, also answers my second question, sweetness or sexy at the end? I'll go with Mature and sexy at the end. Much appreciated.

I would say Erotic Couplings since the age gap doesn't matter. I wouldn't put it into romance since the romantic part is at the end.

There you go guys - making assumptions and using shorthand terms that I don't understand!
So Mature = people involved over the age of what? 30/40/50/60? Which?
Erotic couplings = plain old fuck fest where age isn't mentioned or relevant?
What is the May/December thing? Is this a Shakesperian metaphor for ages of man?
I'm glad I chose Romance for my post-op trans lesbian story, because it has a soppy ending  In fact it's soppy all the way through. There's a bit of soccer if you guys need an excuse to read chic lit.

Rob - If there's a young man on a cruise - he's gay. How did he end up with an older woman, unless he's a gold digger and bumps her off?

My friend, you will just have to wait and read. I'm a little stuck on the final sex scene but it should be ready in a couple of weeks. :giggle:

Sheesh - what we put our characters through! A two week sex scene would exhaust anyone.

Haha! You're lucky - in my first collab with Jason Clearwater, his character Jesse was stuck in the bathroom for a fortnight before he got out. I think I got side-tracked with another story, at the time.

We just had to wait to get the car fixed ;).

Mature encompasses two different things. One is age differential, with no particular cutoff for ages. It can be 18/36. The key is the dynamic between people of different ages and the appeal of that to the reader. Or it can encompass a relationship between two older people. I think it has more to do with phases of life rather than specific age cutoffs. Mature stories are quite popular at Literotica, which is why if you can publish a story there you probably should.

Erotic couplings is a default category. It's where you put something when you can't figure out where else to put it. I don't recommend it because those stories on average do not get as many viewers. There are many, many stories published in this category so you have more competition.

I think there's a lot of overlap between mature and incest (mother/son or father/daughter) in terms of appeal to readers. Mature is like incest without the ick factor for some people. That probably accounts for a lot of its popularity.

Yep. For sure. I'd never do an incest story, totally ick. But mom's best friend, oh she's on the menu. :devilish:

See, for me, ick is no problem. It's almost a plus. But I understand.

Don't misunderstand, I read it occasionally. Yours is particularly good, but I write what I know, the mature women in my stories are based on women I've known, so incest is a no way for me.
