Okay, I have a series of short stories here on Lit. (currently, it's one posted story and a few more I'm working on now), and I've found that, due to the main character's specific personality attributes and the fact that it's told first person, I can't add sex into each and every part of it.
My question is this: If I continue to write them the way the SHOULD be written, meaning without the sex in every part, does that mean that some parts of it will have to go to the Non-erotic section, or can they stay with the rest of the series?
Not sure if it matters, but the story is Fantasy. All the parts will have those elements, but not the sexual variety.
Also, if anyone else has gone through this type deal, does it hurt the readership to have segments that aren't sexually oriented in a series like this.

Any responses are appreciated,

I would think it would be fine to keep them all in Fantasy, though you'll likely end up with some irritated votes from those looking solely for stroke stories. That's the same for any piece of fiction here that is more than just a stroker, though. I'd recommend numbering them so that people know it's part of a series, but I don't see any reason why they can't all be in the same category. Especially one as broad as Fantasy.

You could also try putting them in Novels/Novellas with an author's note at the top of each stating that they are Fantasy.

Edited because I just have to say I love your AV. He was, without a doubt in my mind, the most beautiful man there was. *sigh*

Are they erotic in any way? That is, even without graphic sex? I didn't think Non-erotic at Lit. meant merely no sex.

Quiet Cool,

It'd help if you added a link to your Lit stories.

Mulitple category stories are always a challenge. Should an incest story about three sisters be in Incest, Lesbian, or Group Sex? If this is to be an ongoing series with a central plot and character(s), why not place it in the Novels-Novella category? You might use the same title with chapter numbers to keep them together and in sequence. Use the description field to explain the contents.

Good luck.

I don't think Laurel would allow a Non-erotic story in Fantasy even if it was part of a series.

If you want to keep them together, I suggest Novels and Novellas (you'll lose out on some reads and votes but your story will be read by people who like to read serious stuff as opposed to people who are here for titillation).

You can let them be all over Lit on every category after numbering them and readers can follow the chapter numbers. (More readers but exposure to all people).

I don't know that I agree with whether or not it would be allowed in Fantasy. After all, there are chapters of stories in Romance with no erotic content, not even a kiss, but they are part of a larger story that has all of its chapters in one category.

I would think that, as long as the setting fit in Sci-Fi/Fantasy and as long as each chapter of the story has the same title, it wouldn't be an issue.

What about getting them all posted into the Novels and Novellas category? Or, is that not how you see your series?

I'm not entirely sure how well stories do in that category, though, and what the readership levels tend to be.

I wrote a larger story and posted the chapters under the same name and numbered. I posted them all in the novel/novella category, because I decided they really made one big story and needed to be read one after the other.

So far I am thrilled with the number of views and votes. A lot more right after posting than my previous stories in the sf/fantasy category.

I did not even hinted at the kind of sexual activities in each chapter, merely gave a line on the plot.
Don't tell anybody else: I did because there is one chapter without a clearly defined sex scene.

[Yes, that one scores the lowest.]

Thanx for responding, everyone. It's appreciated.
Rumple: As for attaching a link to the sories, here You Go , but I don't think it'll help much given that only one of them is actually posted so far, and it has pretty graphic sex in it. I'm looking ahead, at possibly the third one--most likely the third one--but definitely soon after that, when I won't be able to naturally add it in without drawing the story away from its focus.
That said, Perdita: I haven't written them yet, to know how much sexuality will be there, just know that I won't have much choice but to omit the graphic sex at some point, again, i'm pretty sure that some point will be nearing very soon. The focus will probably be on either battle or something like that, something else non-sexual. It might be possible toadd something in parts, but I won't deviate from the plotline to keep it out of the non-erotic.
Damp: I'm not certain (I'll have to go back and look it up, read it) but I'm pretty sure the Snork maiden ad one that was non-erotic, but fantasy. I can't say for certain as I didn't read it all the way through, only skimmed it to see if it caught my fancy. no disrespect to her, but it didn't, just not a topic I liked, just like many probably don't like my topics. I think I'll find it and give it a quick read to be certain.
minsue: I thought Novels and Novellas was more or less for stories that length. Mine are I think 9,000 words (1st one) and 13-14,000 words (2nd one), plus the unwritten. All together perhaps they're novella length, when they're finished, but I didn't think the stories would fit into that category. besides, the lost reads and votes works against my wishes there. Oh, and thanx for the compliment on the Av, though you actually complimented Brandon. LOL. Stare away (just remember to wipe your chin.)

I see your point, but i do think the views are low, though that might be because I wouldn't go in there to read. I'm looking for shorter reads, honestly.
I was thinking, hwever, that once they were finished, I might piece them together into a novel and post them there as a larger piece, if Laurel'll will allow it that is...
