A story about a photographer doing a nude photo shoot of his shy ex-girlfriend, with lots of lights and posing and breaking down of inhibitions and which leads to sex - would it be stretching the category definition to put this in Exhibitionism and Voyeur? Would fans of that category be annoyed? Does it really belong in Erotic Couplings?

Also - has this story been done to death?

Yes, the story has been done to death, but as has been pointed out in much more literary circles than here, there are only seven basic plots in the world anyway (or something like that).

Also, it depends on how it's approached. Sometimes, knowing how the story is going to turn out is okay, it's the journey getting there that's interesting.

An example of that, that works for me anyway, is the movie "A Walk In The Clouds." You know exactly where the plot is going, but the spin is a little different.

As far as category... Well, that's the problem with stories that cross over. In the long run, it's up to you to decide which place you'd rather see it. What you need to do is try to weigh how much of which category is in it, then put it there. If you haven't written the story yet, it may be clearer when it's finished.

I say write the thing. Just try to write a story with that subject and make people *not* want to go, "Oh, that again."

moving the overdone question aside...

I'd say put it in Exhibitionist/Voyuer. It'll get more reads, whether they like it or not, than a story in Erotic Couplings. In my experience stories sent to EC get lost in the massive files of stories already in the category. You might even choose to put this story in "Fetish" instead.

I'm going to go against the grain here and say not to put it in the Exhibitionist/Voyeur category. I did a story that was similiar, and most of the feedback I've received was that it simply did not fit readers idea of what this category is about. Not that they could tell me where it was supposed to go, but oh well.

As far as number of people seeing the work, well this particular story of mine has actually received less views than the one I posted to EC. (Well, then again, maybe the story in E/V is just not that well written!) I think you need to know who your audience is and which category they are more likely to click on.

Good luck!

What you started to write it as is what it is for me.

My story Across the Street includes incest, mature, anal, gay (first time), lesbian, group and voyeur/exhibitionist, but it started as incest but meandered into everything else so incest is whereI placed it.

Thanks, everyone.

I was afraid the story had been done, but I promised the photographer I'd write it, so... hopefully I can make it good enough so it doesn't matter that there are similar stories out there.

As far as where to put it... unfortunately the Survivor contest is a factor as well. I don't want to cheat and put a story where it doesn't belong, but I don't know if I will write a more traditional E/V story, and it seemed that this kind of belongs... although SexyChele's feedback seems to suggest otherwise.

I guess I'll just wait a while before I post it.

I'm just kibitzing here, but could you possibly explain what the hell that sentence means?

comma spotting

What you started to write it as, is what it is, for me. or.

How it started out, is, in my opinion, the category it should be entered in.

okay?

Gosh, have you considered selling the rights to Sesame Street?
