Casting Call: Edo Japan

hey there everyone, if the idea doesn't take here, i'll try fishing in the SRP, but would anyone be up for a rp in Edo Japan? (1670 or so) a time where the government is in shambles, banddits roam the country doing wha they want with no punishment, except of course from those who deal it themselves, the Samurai, and the Ninja. it is a time when the Edo era was at it's downfall, everyone was at war with everyone else, the ishin, the Shinsen Gumi.

after a long and bloody war, eventually the emperor is overthrown, and the Edo era falls, this opens up the Meiji Era, which is governed well, there is peace, and policing, we can dip into there if we want, but for starters, lets take it in the Edo.

Himura Kenshin (the character i plan to play)

When he loses everyone he knows to murderous bandits, Hiko Seijuro takes him into his care, gives him a new name befitting a swordsman and teaches him to fight. His swordsmanship is the Hiten Mitsurugi school, which embraces the philosophy of using the sword without prejudice, to protect and preserve life. it also happens to be one of the deadliest and fastest. Before completing his training, Kenshin leaves his sensei. Civil war is raging in Japan. Kenshin becomes an assassin for the Ishin Shishi, earning the nickname Hitokiri Battousai. He slaughters hundreds in the belief he is helping to bring about a new era of peace. the Hitokiri Battousai is feared as the most dangerous man there is. he is hard, and calculating.
he uses a Katana, but later on vows never to kill again, and reverses the blade on it, making it a Sakaba. Kenshin is actually a small man, thin, but musclular, but less so than most other charechters. he is insane with a sword, nothing can stop him, but take that away, and he's fast, but not very powerful.

Sanosuke Sagara

A former Sekihoutai member who is frustrated by his own inability to prevent the untimely death of his hero and role model, the Sekihoutai captain Sagara Sozo, Sanosuke lives an aimless life as a gangster. He fights to forget his painful past. when he meets Kenshin, they band together, the only weapons he uses are his fists, occationally an incredibly long sword the width of his body and over his height in blade, and hand bombs borrowed from his friend. through his journeying he learned an technique, whose name escapes me, but the idea is, that you hit something hard enough to take all the resistance out of that object, and then hit it again, nanoseconds apart. it does not amtter how hard you hit the second time, the object shatters. this is done so fast it seems like one hit. Sano is tall, and hard, muscled, but not heavily, what he makes up for in lack of muscle size, he gets in it's strength and steel like hardness.

Shinomori Aoshi


He is the leader of Kyoto's Onybanka (sp?) Ninja team. he is silent and remains that was since the death of his comrades. he carries two different kinds of weapons during his time, he carries a Kodaichi, which is a sword with a long handle, and short blade (relative to a Katana) this he uses for defence, while his uses body attacks on offence.

later on he uses two Kodaichi's, which he carries in one long scabbord, these he uses for both attack and defence. Aoshi is tall, and muscular, but not heavily so.

Saito Hajime


On the surface, Saito appears to be an unfeeling and ruthless killer. A taciturn man who carries a cigarette when he's not brandishing his sword, Saito rarely loses his cool. If you asked him, Saito'd probably say absolute discipline or self-control is his greatest virtue. He acts like a savage and unforgiving man who cares about no one and nothing else but his own particular brand of unrelenting justice. Saitoh is/was the leader of the third division of the Shinsen Gumi. the emporer's guard. this puts Saitoh and Kenshin at swords, however later in the Meiji era they find themselves on the same sides. Saitoh is a tall thin man.

Hiko Seijuro

The thing about Hiko is the uncanny way he understands the world around him as much as he does himself. He doesn't mince his words because he knows he speaks the truth. If Hiko comes across as arrogant, it's because he's earned the privilege. He is not arrogant in the ways most arrogant people are arrogant. A lot of people can't see beyond his seemingly narcissistic front but he really does care about the people he meets. Kenshin and his friends, for instance. He's a shrewd judge of character who admires the qualities of talent, integrity and self-reliance. Outward appearances don't sway him at all. Hiko is Kenshins Sensei, the one who taught him Hiten Misurugi Ryu, (sword style they use) he is a large man, with muscles galore. he wears a long flowing cape, and is dressed mostly in white.

Yahiko

Yahiko is a boy that enters a dojo run by Karou. he is the son of a samurai warrior, and is trying to follow in his ancestors paths.


Karou

Karou is the master of the dojo Kenshin ends up staying at, and sano and Yahiko as well. she is a master at the Kammia sword style. classic thing but shapely womans figure.

Name: Ein (E-yen) hikarie
Age:19
height: 5'6
eyes: ice blue
hair:A somewhat dirty, dark brown and is kinda wild

looks: has a slight build, yet he is stronger than he looks. Whears a blue ribbon on his head that gos down to his lower back, and an black shirt split open, and black ninja like pants he stole

Bio: Not knowing anything about his family or past, Ein became a street rat at the age ten stealing only for food for him and his freinds that were fello street rats, after finnaly Shion and his freinds were caught surprizingly by a elderly man, he agreed that if he promissed to be trained by the man, he and his freinds were set free.

through out the next 8 years and four months, Ein and his freinds were trained to be skilled fighters for the up and comming rummered war between his school, and another, ruthless school.

Yet after a training session, his school was mysteriosly attack and set on fire, the only survivers that Ein knows about is himself, and his trainers grand daughter who was taken away right before his eyes

hmm.... is this school supposed to train you into a soldier for the civil war? or is it more of a rivalry, because at this time, anyone who has a rival is dead, and everyone else who fights is busy training or fighting.... or dying LOL basically, i'd like to now a littl emore about your training and your school. oh, and your weaponry.

The master of the training area trained people who didn't have homes, it was basicly an orphan home that would train people to be prepaired for anything.

The other school on the other hand was a ruthless, mercyless, evil school that killed anybody that they said was even close to equal. straingly enough, that school too was also bombed

Shion has three different weapons, the main one is a slightly shorter than it is suppose to be nodachi, a pair of retractible clawed gloves for if he is not able to use his sword, and a bow that was made out of bamboo for long range combat

Currently Shion is a mercernary, hoping it would lead him to the wherabouts of his masters grandfather

I don't know much of anything about this series but I'll play.

Name: Janus (Pronounced Yawn-us)
Height: 5'9"
Hair: long dark blonde in pony tail.
Eyes: brown
Build: Very fit and thin.

Clothing: Blue sleeved sgirt and lose fiting pants. Where typical Itlain cape covers back and forward left. The cape is made to block a suprise hit (Seriously thats why they wore them.)

Style:Typical fenceing. Defense and speed over power.

bio: This former aristrocrat and upper class member was kick out of his home when his brother inheirited most of the fammilys land and fortune. He figured he'd make his own fortune by becomeing a merchent for gunpower which had recently apeared in Itlay. However while on the way to china he got in a fight with the captin of the ship, and now finds himself in Japan. He's been around long enough to get an understanding of the language, but little of the culture. His goals are to make money and get back to Itlay.

I'm hopeing to add less comon fighting styles to Janus as we go. But for the time being he'll dodge or parry attacks.

By the way what are the swords made of? I know Janus's is steel but are the japanese swords steel at this point or is this before steel becomes comon place?
