Alice was very impressed with Carly's home. Very impressed. It sat on a slope of the city's East Hills neighborhood. In a gated community of homes that in some cases reached a million dollars in today's market. Alice was standing on a deck that stood 15 feet over a canyon wall. The canyon sloped away to the rest of the community and the city beyond.
It was the reason Alice was here this Thursday afternoon. Not the home itself. Not even its value in general. But in the family's ability to own such a place. Carly's family wasn't one of those so called One Percenter types. But they were a helluva lot better off than Alice's own blue collar family.
"More tea?" a young female voice called from inside the home.
Alice looked over her shoulder, turned. and walked through the opened sliding glass door. This room was what Carly had called, quote-unquote, Her father's heaven away from the hell that was otherwise his professional and personal life. Alice would have called it a den. But then, what did she know about home design?
"Got anything a bit stronger?" she asked Carly with a devilish smile.
"Than black tea?" Carly asked, not understanding Alice's true inquiry. "Red Bull in black tea?"
Alice only laughed. When she did, Carly followed suit as she comprehended her friend's meaning. She responded, "Got it, sorry! Let me see if my dad's liquor cabinet is locked."
Your dad... Alice mused. Alice looked around the room. She contemplated the rest of the four bedroom, five bath home. Recreation room, TV room, exercise room, this room, that room, and the other room. She knew that this was what she wanted for her own life. She asked, "What was it you said your dad did?"
As Carly answered, Alice began a slow walk around the room. She found one of a kind paintings and limited edition prints. Fine leather chairs and couch that looked as though no one had ever sat in them. "Or, is your mother the bread earner?"
Carly answered about her father. She was trying to wiggle open the liquor cabinet but it wasn't happening. She playfully offered, "Red Bull then?"
Alice laughed. She moved to the big oak desk, opened a drawer, and found a large paper clip. She bent it between the desk top and barely open drawer. When it looked right to her, Alice worked the lock of the cabinet. And click. The door opened.
"Wow," Carly said softly. She was obviously in awe. "How did you learn that?"
"Internet, of course," Alice said. She picked through the bottles. She gave Carly a quick lesson on how to poke through an adult's booze without said adult knowing you had. She finally pulled out a bottle of a mint flavored liqueur. "This one."
"Eww, really?"
"If your parents suddenly show up," Alice explained, "They'll smell the mint before the alcohol. Just maybe you'll have time to go brush your teeth and change your clothes and hide the bottle before you get caught."
Alice unscrewed the top of the bottle and took a big swig. She handed it out to Carly, who giggled. She took it, asking, "Should I be impressed or a bit concerned that you know all this?"
Alice laughed. "Both! Now, go get our mugs. Tea mugs, so they can't see what we're drinking. I'll meet you on the deck. And ice!"
An hour or so later, the pair were on the deck still. This time they were outside the sliding glass door to Carly's bedroom. The bottle of mint liqueur was more empty than not. They were chatting and laughing when Carly suddenly went quiet. She panicked at the familiar sound of a car coming up the drive shared with two other beautiful and expensive homes.
"It's my dad!" she warned. She grabbed for the bottle now in Alice's hand.
But Alice only snatched it back. "Too late for that. You're not going to be able to hide that we nearly finished it off."
Carly was panicking. "Did you know that when we started drinking it?"
Alice smiled and shrugged her shoulders. Carly was panicking. But Alice just sent her off to brush her teeth and change her top, upon which some of the sweet, sticky liqueur had splashed. Alice expected her hostess to return shortly. But after several minutes passed, the footsteps she heard on the deck were anything but Carly's.
Alice turned to find a handsome, older man -- Carly's dad, obviously -- staring at her...
She smiled to him as he took in the sight of her. "Hi. I'm Alice. I'm a friend of your daughter's. She invited me for a slumber party."
The recently turned 19 year old Alice smiled at the use of the phrase slumber party. Did anyone say that anymore, particularly someone her age? Were they called sleepovers these days?
After a moment, she turned to face him and offered out the cup. (OOC: out of context pic of her front side.)
She asked with a slightly flirtatious tone, "Care to share? It's your booze, after all."
"Dad!" Carly suddenly called from the doorway of her bedroom's attached bathroom. She hurried toward him. She was eager to get him out and away from the only half dressed Alice. She asked with a teen girl's panic, "What are you doing in my room?"
