"I ever would have gotten the opportunity to leave without you either," he said. "i know you want to look after Nikolai, but I still want to look after you. What can I do?"

Jin nodded and returned with the food. "What else do you wish to know about me? All you really know is that I'm really good at watching doors and killing people."

"Whatever you feel comfortable telling, I'm not going to push you on anything," Alexis said, sipping on her tea and nibbling on the saltines.

"I got into the mafia due to my accounting skill," he began to explain. "Eventually, though, they looked to test my loyalty and put me on harder and more dubious assignments to see if I could keep my head and their secrets."

Alexis nodded. "Well, that would surely come in handy to my superiors," she noted. "When we're back in America, I can set you up some place and help you find work."

Alexis shook her head sadly. "Thank you, but not at the moment," she said. She took another sip of peppermint tea.

"Then I will leave you to your charge," he said, nodding earnestly. "When we land and you're feeling better, we'll deal with Paige."

"Thank you, Jin," Alexis said gratefully.

When he left, she stayed by Nikolai's side, stroking his hair. "I'm so sorry, love, forgive me," she whispered softly.

"For what?" we had a mission and it went wrong," he croaked feverishly. screaming for release for all that time had not been kind to his throat.

Alexis held his head up and gently poured some tea down his throat. "But I should've known, and I walked right into the trap," she said softly. "This was my fault." She put another cool washcloth on his head. "There were other things that happened while we were there, things I'm not proud of, and it makes me ashamed." She bowed her head, but continued caring for him, a couple tears falling.

"She wanted to keep me and she almost had me," he said quietly. "I don't know how much more denial I could take."

Alexis put his head on her lap. "I pretty much beat and fucked a girl senseless, all because Wu would have done worse if I didn't. I couldn't get her to see things my way, Wu had poisoned her." She began to cry softly. "I didn't want to. . . It hurt so much. . ."

"He's dead, we're free, and we have the one responsible. I call that a win," he said, trying to hold her but only succeeded in doing it loosely.

"Well we'll need a lot of recovery time, lots of hugs and kisses, but almost everything else he brought on himself. You tried your best and that's what counts, despite the horrible circumstances."

"Hold me and rest, we'll have plenty of time to be horrible to people later. For right now, let's just be us."

Nikolai chuckled back and held her, saying, I love you, too, falling asleep in her arms as the chopper touched down.

Alexis also fell asleep, only to be woken up by the chopper touching down. She slid out of Nikolai's arms and dressed them both in sweatpants and T-shirts. "Baby? Wake up. We're on U.S. soil," she said softly.

Nikolai awoke slowly, sitting up ant throwing on shorts and a tshirt. "Let me guess, Hawaii?" he said, looking out at the crashing waves on the beach as the sun rose on the horizon.

Alexis nodded. "Yes, Hawaii," she replied. "Here, we'll board a personal plane and fly back to D.C., where the Director will tell us not to work for a couple months." She took a deep breath and sighed.

She walked back to the chopper to help Jin corral Paige, who was fighting the young Chinese man. Once Paige was under control, she returned to Nikolai's side.

Nikolai slept through the night. An orderly woke Alexis the next morning, saying, "Your debriefing is on video conference."
