"It went through," he said. "And yes, the checkpoint is gone. No doubt more guns wiil show up any minute, so let's get you checked in first."

"Nikolai, I thought I told you to behave behind the wheel," she whispered sleepily. She looked at the nurse on duty. "Hey. . . I've been shot. . ."

"Hey, I got you here, didn't I?" he asked, walking with her a the orderlies wheeled her into surgery on a stretcher. He could hear boots running towards them from outside the medical bay.

Alexis found her ID and flashed it to the brass running down the hallway after them. "CIA, he's with me. Decided my well being was more important- OH FOR GOODNESS SAKE AT EASE!" She barked. "I've just been shot!" Pain flamed up in her thigh and she grimaced.

Alexis got the stitches and orders not to do anything too strenuous and to keep some weight off of it for a while. She rolled her eyes but nodded. The doctor gave her some pain killers and soon she was discharged. She made her way out to the waiting room, having mild problems with the crutches.

Nikolai stood and offered to help her. "The boss wants to see us when you're ready," he said. "Can I get you anything?"

"Always," he said as they entered the office. The boss looked both concerned and angry at the same time.

Alexis smiled and hobbled in. "Hey, Boss. Yes, I know I made you come in on a Sunday. Hope I didn't interrupt services," She said.

"How are you doing?"

"Eh, it was clean. Just through the muscle. Got strict orders from the doc."

"And HIM ramming the checkpoint?" The Director pointed at Nikolai.

"He has a name, use it!" Alexis barked. "He is not an alien creature, and he WILLINGLY betrayed his own fucking country so he could help this one. You treat him with respect, or so help me, things will not go well. Nikolai has saved my life and other lives more times I can count. Now give him some fucking respect and use his fucking name!"

The Director sighed. "I'm sorry, Alexis. It's been a tough transition for all of us. "

"Yah, well, make it quicker."

"Anyways, Nikolai rammed the checkpoint at Fort Andrews why?"

"He felt like I needed medical attention more than digging out an ID."

Nikolai finally had it. "Nikolai Orlofsky, nice to meet you, Director, And you're welcome for saving one of your best agents. Really, no need to thank me."

The Director turned beet red and Alexis snickered under her breath. She discreetly squeezed his hand.

"I'm-I'm sorry," The Director finally said, stammering. "Why don't you go home and get some rest? The both of you. And Mr. Orlofsky? You better take care of that young lady right there. There are several agents here who would have your head if you didn't."

"No need to threaten him, Director," Alexis said, standing up. She shook the Director's hand and tried to make it to the door unassisted but that didn't work.

Nikolai helped her out and said, "They can have my head if they can come get it," as he shut the door, he said in a more friendly tone, "How about those tacos?"

"i thought he was going to have a aneurism," he said, loading her into the car and driving to get food.

Nikolai went to the drive through and got food. "We should eat and then pack our bags for the base," he said. "We'll be safe there."

Nikolai packed the suitcases and returned to the base. "We got one of the houses," he said. "It looks better than a barracks room."

Alexis smiled. "Thanks, love," she said, getting out of the car and starting to hobble again towards the house on base.

Nikolai moved them in and sat down to think. He brought out all the files they had on their previous captures, trying to figure out who would use a .40 caliber rifle.

Alexis hobbled into the room and gently closed the folder he was looking at. "Tomorrow," she said softly. "The Director's on it, they got the body." She kissed his cheek.
