Nikolai rolled over, hoping Alexis would be the big spoon. He felt vulnerable and hated it, but her touch was lovely just the same.

Alexis nestled in behind him, being the big spoon. She continued to stroke his hair and his cheek, ?being gentle and patient. "Feeling better?"

"Better than before, but still weak." he slid back into her, loving every caress she placed on him.

"You'll be fine in a few hours," Alexis soothed, still caressing him gently. "We all feel weak after a blow to the head."

She laid there next to him, smiling softly. This was feeling nice, and sweet. She imagined this as the rest of her life. . . .

Tears started to form but she held them back. Getting Nikolai back to full health was important, she can sort out her feelings later.

Alexis bit her lip. She didn't want to worry him, but she knew especially now, communication was important. "Just. . . . imagining a life that probably won't ever happen," she said softly.

Alexis bit her lip and teared up more. "We do. . . ." she whispered. "I just. . . . never thought. . . ."

Alexis gulped and wiped away her tears, thankful Nikolai couldn't see. "I never thought that I would end up. . . with a person I want to spend the rest of my life with. . . . I focused so much on my career. . . I never thought that I would have this life. . . "

"Well I think we are doing all right for people who met trying to kill each other," Nikolai said, "Once we make it out we can focus on the rest working out."

Alexis nodded, feeling guilty now that she was crying and she wanted to focus on him. "Okay. . . sounds like a plan." She replied back.

Nikolai wished he could turn around to hold Alexis without serious effort. He settled for saying, "I love you,"

Alexis could feel her heart jump at those three words. "I love you too," she whispered back, nestling back into his back, wrapping her arms around him gently.

Nikolai was starting to feel fatigued. "If I go to sleep, will you wake me up every hour or so?"

Nikolai drifted off, knowing he would be safe. If something went wrong, Alexis would save him.

Alexis laid there contently for the next few hours, waking him up every hour or so as requested. She didn't sleep, just laid there and watched him sleep.

Nikolai awoke finally and found he could move around without falling over. He was still a little groggy though, so he took things slow. He found that Alexis had finally gotten some rest and began to pack the truck.

Alexis apparently dozed off at one point, because when she woke up, she didn't see Nikolai.

"Nikolai?" she asked, confused.

Nikolai came back inside. "We are mostly paced aside from our supplies. Thank you for watching me last night."

Alexis sat up and curled up underneath the blanket. "You're welcome, sweetie," she said with a smile. She still felt bad about kicking him so hard he got a concussion AND pouring out her heart and soul.

Nikolai thought about last night's conversation as he made pancakes and sausage. "You know I meant it, right?"

Nikolai doled out the food and sat down. "It's all right, we are both under a lot of stress right now. Once we get out, we can really relax with each other."
