Alexis smiled and fell asleep in bliss.

When she awoke Nikolai was still sleeping so she quietly got of bed and started working on her paperwork, her brow furrowed in concentration.

Nikolai finally awoke and saw Alexis hard at work. He left to go to the gym so she could finish up undisturbed.

Alexis finally was finished and wanted to get her frustration out. Not knowing where Nikolai was, she decided she'd go down to the firing range. She found a sheet of paper and wrote "Went to the range. Easy to find. Come get me if you want, I'll be back in a bit. XOXO Alexis".

After she taped it to the inside of the door, she went down to the range, prepped, and started shooting.

Nikolai found the note and wandered to the range himself. He watched Alexis shoot for a bit, loving how sexy she was with a gun in her hands. In between magazines, he walked up and hugged her from behind. "Think you could show me how to throw that bowie knife of yours?" he asked.

Alexis giggled and nodded. "It's actually really simple." She set down the two Glocks she was using and picked up a couple of knives. "The trick is throwing it by the blade. Mind, this is dangerous, but there's ways to avoid it."

She laid her knife flat in the palm of her hand. "Don't curl you fingers around it like you would a fist. That's a surefire way to cut yourself. Cup it, gently. Pinch it in the palm of your hand." She demonstrated. "Lining up targets is very similar to shooting. Measure twice, cut once is an expression we use, to make sure we double check. And then. . ." she threw. It landed straight in the target's stomach. "Voila."

Nikolai tried to follow through with her instructions, but when he threw, the handle bounced off of the target.

Alexis smiled, and guided Nikolai through the process again, this time, moving his hands to the way they needed to be. "Your cup was too small," she explained. "And you didn't flick your wrist. You threw from the shoulder."

Once she was satisfied, she stepped back. "Flick to throw," she said.

Nikolai tried again, this time sticking the knife straight into the target. "Thanks, teacher," he said, kissing Alexis on the cheek.

Alexis smiled and kissed his cheek. "You're welcome, student," she told him, her eyes alight with happiness.

"Now let me show you how to shoot," Nikolai said, picking up an M4 rifle and placing ten rounds in the diameter of a nickel.

Alexis laughed. "I know how to shoot!" she giggled, picking up an M-16 and doing the same. "Remember, sweetie, you even said you were glad I threw my knife and not shot at you."

Alexis giggled and hugged him from behind. "You've shown off for me plenty," she teased. "I've seen you shoot before, and you're fantastic at it. Not to mention you're a pretty damn good cook, and by far the best man I've ever taken to bed. Albeit it's been six years since I did, and I was drunk then."

"And you are the first woman who has decided I'm worth being with for more than my KGB affiliation." Nikolai said, "Or rather, in spite of it."

Alexis smiled and wiggled underneath his strong arms. "Because I don't see you as a member of the KGB. You're not that man. You're Nikolai, a nice, strong, loving young man who would do anything to prevent his woman from getting hurt. You're a man, who has needs and desires that nothing but love can fill. The KGB affiliation was just a mask. I saw beyond the mask, that first night when you held me as I cried, scared you were going to hurt me, maybe even rape me. You held me, even though I was the enemy. You held me because you wanted to take away my pain. That's why I didn't take your keys and your gun and shoot you when you were talking to your superior and the keys were lying on the ground. You can't love a dead man," she told him quietly. She stroked his face. "We all wear a mask. Only those who want to choose to see beyond it."

"And you have care d for me spectacularly well yourself," Nikolai said. "I'm not as eloquent as you, but I'd take you anywhere with me and fear nothing but losing you."

Alexis smiled broadly and hugged him. "Are you ready to spend the rest of your life with me?" she asked softly into his chest.

"That sounds like a great plan, but let's see if we drive each other nuts living together first." Nikolai said, kissing her.

Alexis kissed him back, feeling his love. "Sounds good," she agreed. Suddenly, her head started hurting, and she warily sat down, head in hands.

"No, no, my head just started hurting," Alexis assured him, rubbing her temples with the tips of her fingers. "They sometimes make me unsteady, so I sat down."

She didn't want him to worry.

"Maybe," Alexis confessed, her head hurting more than it ever has and feeling heavy. "It feels like a bunch of little men are setting off C4 in my brain, then going through it with little jackhammers." Tears sprang to her eyes.

"OK, jet's go," Nikolai said, supporting her as they walked through the ship. He sat her down on the examination table and waited for the medic to do his job.
