im thinkin that if he doesnt come and answer, we should just start making up the stories behind it.
now, that could be fun.

Knowing Cantdog a little, the point of the av may be something personal. He is a very nice fellow, with a very strong viewpoint and if he hasn't responded, it may well be because it's personal. Before anyone takes a spin at explaining his av, please be cognizant that you might be holding something serious to him up to the light for funises.

good point colly.

no disrespect was meant. I hope he will reply.

from what I know of cantdog, I assumed that it was probably meaningful, and he's usually pretty open about the subjects of his av's. (that I've seen)

If it wasn't cant's in fact, I probably would have just ignored it, not figuring it had too deep a meaning at all, just an interesting design...

But with cant, I know better. I'm sort of expecting a rather sad explanation, but perhaps with hope in there somewere. this is the sort of thing I've come to expect, and look forward to in most of what comes this way from him.

If he doesn't want to talk about it, I promise to shut up if he asks me to...

There is another consideration.

Cantdog changes his AV so often that perhaps — like me — he doesn’t know to which AV you are referring.

I've only ever seen one thread. Are you being facetious?

Well, we could make up an AV and make up stories about that one. I like the one where he's part fireman and part goose.

Or is that Min?

I get confused.

Hello. Been gone over the weekend.

I got leaves now. Is that the one you mean?

colly, i would never mean any disrespect to cant. sweet, honest and talented man that cant. hes helped me with stories before and i would never step on his toes.

that being said.
hiyas cant! welcome back? if snp isnt here, i would love to know the story behind the horseback riding av.
*hugs*

Oh good. Glad it's the horseback one. If it were the leaves, it would have been very anticlimactic indeed.

That was "me and Ed." Ed, the horse, was a movie star, or at least he was IN a movie. Waterworld was shot, partly, on location in Hawaii. Ed lived in Hawaii at the time and they wanted a horse, so he took the part.

Like a lot of Hawaii, the valley Ed lives in is spectacularly beautiful, raw and abrupt, with rocks so young they're still teething. The valley terminates in a black sand beach with an unbelieveable view inland.

When we went to Hawaii, my wife and I, it was to please Laura. Laura had come to live with us for her senior year, after her mother died and the State of Maine couldn't place her near her high school. The place you go to high school is your home town; nobody wants to switch out of high school to another one in the middle of things. Laura had never had much, and her life had been fairly rootless. We were going on a vacation, she got to take a friend along (Autum, that was) and she got to pick where to go.

Laura has been around horses and such beasts a lot. She's by way of being an expert. I had only sat a horse one time in my life, at about ten, on my great uncle's farm, bareback with the horse being led. I liked the sensation of the horse's muscles working but I remember distrusting the animal deeply. She had a desire to go horseback riding, though, so I threw out my prejudices.

Me and Ed hit it off really well. I paid slavish attention to the instructor person who taught me neck reining, and Ed enforced the lesson by ignoring me when I did it wrong a couple of times. After that, all was well. Ed was kind and patient and so was I, so there was a flow of soul. There were some things Ed was unwilling to do, but I was able to convince him, when necessary, by calm insistence.

The valley was gorgeous and Laura was extremely happy. She fantasized to Autum about being able to have a horse ranch on Hawaii some day. That would have made it worthwhile in any case, but it really was a good match, me and Ed, and it changed my mind about horses.

Glad you found your way to the thread cantdog.

That is a nice story, but I don't remember seeing the horeback one.

I was actually asking about the leaves, lol.

Might as well tell one about the av you are currently useing as well, while your at it. (and since the leaves are so hum-drum, but I want to hear it anyway.)

My feet are like wings memsahib

They're just, like, leaves.

I think they look good and it was Vet's day and I found the identical Flanders poppies too confusing. I thought, something somberish and not too gaudy, y'know.

That's all there is to the leaves, I'm afraid.

:(

not very satisfying I know

Well, now that we know it's not personal, and there's no real story, maybe we should do it anyway.

I thought it looked like leaves that had drifted onto a body of water that had oil spilled in it, and cant was there helping to clean it up, or protesting or making some sort of statement about it.

What's you take?

I think cantdog is a little egotistical and puerile.
