Wax Play
The best kinds, colors, brands if any... places to stay away, cautions? Advice... know how? Favorite things? I want to get into it but want to be cautious till i learn for myself a little, anyone have any ideas input?

Here are just a couple of links for you to take a look at. Two discuss types of wax and safety issues, and the last is an online store that has candles for sale specifically made for wax play:

If you are new to waxing, you want to look for parrafin wax. These are easy enough to find - the novena candles (long tall candles enclosed in glass) are good, as are emergency candles. Also, sabbath candles that Jews use and can be purchased in grocery stores are parrafin. The candles that are sold on most BDSM online stores are parrafin. Parrafin candles burn at a cooler temp, so you get the sensations but not the burns.

Candles to stay away from are those that are dripless, contain perfume, colored (unless they are parrafin), or beeswax. These burn much hotter and can actually cause serious burns. (Like, emergency room visit burns!)

When you first begin waxing, you want to involve skin that is not quite so sensitive to see if it's what you want. This usually includes the back and ass. Stay away from the breasts until/unless you are sure you like it. The genital area should only be waxed when you are sure you like it and your partner has good aim! :) It's also important to remember that the lower the candle (nearer the skin) the hotter the wax. The farther away the candle is from the skin, the more the wax will cool on it's descent.

This can be a very enjoyable sensation, but common sense and a fore knowledge go a long way towards avoiding unfortunate circumstances!

BDSM Library is a great resource--Check it out!!

First, I'd encourage everyone here at the How-To Board to take a trip over to the BDSM Board sometime to check out our BDSM Library, it's full of threads on ALL sorts of interesting subjects! It's divided into categories, which are hyperlinked to the threads themselves, so it's pretty easy to navigate.

Secondly, BlueSugar, there is a whole category in our Library on Wax and Fire Play, check it out!

I've tried hot wax a few times and really enjoyed it. I found some really cheap candles that work very well. You can find them at most grocery stores, they're sabbath candles. They usually come in a box of 12 and are white with no perfume or sents.
They worked great for me, good luck.

Passover candles work well, too.
