Land Rover even used a version of it in a magazine ad campaign back in the mid to late 1990s.

Whoever put you on their mailing list needs to get out more. Apparently so do you. Been around forever.

They are right and wrong about that, it takes someone who knows the language well to understand and you have to have the right letters in the word. If you misspell a word it's incomprehensible unless your talking a simple word like the or you.

It's not because the mind doesn't read the whole word, it's because when you know a language you know roughly what word sthi spells, or perhaps drvaaakr spells and so on. It's not your mind skimming the words, it's your mind solving the puzzle.

I do hope I got the right number of letters in the second one there it's been so long since I've even seen it used.

Thats basically speed reading in reverse msortof.

Your brain does not recognize each and every letter in a word. It never has and never will and thats the same reason that with practice you can speed read.

Its the beauty of having an infinite number of combinations from a set of 24 letters......the brain figured out that only 9 letters mean squat.
