Can we please reject "American exceptionalism" once and for all?

The country will be fucked if immigrants are deported by the millions, tariff barriers are erected, and tax cuts swell the deficit. And massive deregulation ain't gonna help nuttin', neither.
Yup, and Biden is as sharp as ever. You have NO credibility.

Exceptionalism won.

Socialism, the -ISMs as a rule, have lost that argument and are fading with the trappings of the race ad division industry, people are sick of religion and government internationally. We are blending and we will get richer. There will be the final division of class warfare, ISMs and altruism via government, but we are moving on to the future, a Star Trek future past the age of tribalism, yet there will always be that romantic yearning for a past that never was. Heck, the 60s that made such an impression on my generation seem to pale after the last decade, but we’re moving on from a different form of collectivism: the fraternity of meritocracy and risk, for it will take both to reach the stars.

Before you point to its apparent socialism of a Star Trek world, they just order what they want and it appears by magic (super-advanced technology) but consider, as we move to electronic currency, and we will, AI and artificial intelligence, every crew member could be getting paid and every thing the “wish up” is just charged electronically. They do not need much, because it’s space. It’s Spartan. Existence is…, fleeting.

PS – We’re, the world is undergoing a dramatic change and we’re going to need educated help, lots of it, education based on meritocracy, so you’re going to have to say goodbye to your dreams of social-engineering yourself to a better society, that isn’t going to keep us in the race to the stars. That makes us the retarded cousins that got left behind. We’re going to need the best and brightest and that means focusing on STEM not WOKE (an acronym as hollow as the idea).

It’s a time of change, people are going to scramble, things will be booming, people with brains and people with hands will be in demand for work and they, or anyone else, will have time to waste on dreamers of a better day. You just are not going to find and audience for a while, so, adapt, overcome and change. You never know. You might succeed beyond your wildest dreams. In affluent times, dreamers can ever sell pet rocks…

We're never going to reach the stars unless we can develop faster-than-light travel, which is probably impossible. We could colonize the Solar system, but only if ways can be found to exploit it profitably in an economic sense, because people are not going to spend their lives sealed in a can for something as abstract as racial survival or scientific discovery.

And if we ever do colonize the Solar system, we will have left Earth-based forms of nationalism behind.

I recall a Golden Age SF story, "Parasite Planet" (1935), in which the habitable zone of a tidally-locked Venus is divided into American, British, French and Dutch sectors. No, it won't be like that.

Some things are exceptional. If that were not true, the word probably wouldn’t exist. There’s nothing wrong with recognizing that some things are better. Some folks are stronger or smarter, etc.

America is an exceptional country. It has not prospered all these years by accident but by design coupled with the hard work and ingenuity of its citizens.

That isn’t to say America is perfect. You could fill a book with a list of all its faults. But I would argue most other countries in the world would require multiple volumes to do the same.

Instead of griping how horrible it is, jump down off your high horse and help make it even more exceptional. And by that I mean a good way. Not the USSR/Stalin way.

More by accident than any of those. Fortunate historical circumstances. There are many less prosperous and powerful countries that have people no less ingenious or hardworking -- and better political constitutions.

No, the model to copy is the Scandinavian social democracy way.

You could always push yourself away from the keyboard and go make a difference for the better.

But I’ll warn you. That will require effort. Empathy for others. Some sacrifice.

What we all do here on this message board has . . . ripples. Affects the culture. Might help push the boundaries of the real-life Overton Window leftward or rightward.

Oh please! Talk is meaningless. Particularly political talk where most people live in their own bubble and only take in the words they already agree with.

I seriously doubt there is a single thing I can say on a single subject that might actually cause someone like you to thoughtfully ponder your point of view and try to see things from a different angle. You are married to your opinions and no one in this world is going to change that.

In a way, your sort of like a devout Catholic whose faith in certain beliefs is so unshakable that it simply cannot be challenged.
