1. I have a teacher who keeps teaching us about rap and rap culture for no good reason. She keeps mentioning it and "Slam" poetry.

2. Nat'l Lampoon doesn't make movies. They go and see movies, then attach their name to it. That's how they did it with "Van Wilder" AKA "This movie is gonna suck". They watched it and then wrote a cheque for promotion and attached their name to it. I thought it was pretty crappy, too (The buisness practice. I'm not gonna see that movie)

LOL Joey, you rebel you. For those anal people out there, let's provide the definition of the word "poetry" according to Webster's Dictionary:

"poetry, n.:
1. a: metrical writing : VERSE b : the productions of a poet : POEMS
2 : writing that formulates a concentrated imaginative awareness of experience in language chosen and arranged to create a specific emotional response through meaning, sound, and rhythm
3 a: something likened to poetry esp. in beauty of expression b: poetic quality or aspect (the ~ of dance)

So, this allows for both points of view: rap is poetry in the sense that it's metrical writing, but not necessarily in the second sense of the word concerning the purposeful arrangement of words into patterns that will create a desired feeling in the reader/listener. In short, you're all correct.

Pick and choose your battles people. Rap isn't exactly the most pressing issue out there.
