can someone tell me why so many politicians (and it's mostly repubs but not exclusively) are such total dick-for-brains?

campaign ad showing republican congressional candidate out hunting but he hasn't been hunting for a long time, or hold a hunting license. Just conning the voters (no one'd be surprised) or a lying mcliarface hunting illegally?

'just a photoshoot', hasn't been hunting since he was a kid and a neck injury means he can't even hold a rifle up properly.
 
As George Carlin pointed out, who are these politicians? They didn't pop in from some alternate dimension. They're Americans! They were born to American families, they grew up in American neighborhoods, they went to American schools, and they were elected by American voters! This is the best we could do! So maybe it's not the politicians who suck! Maybe it's something else . . . like, the public! The public sucks!
 
Put another way: To win, you have to be a dick-for-brain -- or at least present yourself as one.
 
You have to look to the media, and ownership of the same.
The bile and lies that the pedal as news. Not that it is too much better this side of the "pond". Perhaps we are witness to the decline a of the western world. Bread and circuses with not so much bread. Dog whistle politics. An population train to punch down rather that looking at where all the resources gets hoovered up.
 
I suppose it all depends how mush it costs to have any kind of voice with your elected representative
 
The people vote them in. The problem isn't the politicians. Not unique to America either. Its a human problem.
 
That's simple...because no one holds them accountable. If the behaviors elected officials were unacceptable to the voters...they would lose their jobs.
