Can I use a link in a story?

I'm not sure if this question would be best here or in the Editor's forum.

In my story, I have a woman wearing a Wicked Weasel bikini. While I can describe it to the best of my ability, I'd like to be able to have the swimsuit name also be a link to the page where the bikini is on the Wicked Weasel website (say that 5 times fast).

It will add a nice visual to my story but I don't know if it would be allowed. Anyone have any input?

Nope. The only links you can have in a story are to pages on the Literotica website.

Thanks. I suspected as much.

And I couldn't take the pics from the WW site and make an illustrated story, because that'd be stealing their pictures.

Hmmmm...

I have a great idea! Post a full frontal picture of the Wicked Weasel bikini model, sans the bikini. You're obviously not stealing the Wicked Weasel picture and you can block out the models face, to avoid problems there.

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic or not, but in case you're serious, that wouldn't help me for a few reasons.
  1. The point of the link is to show the bikini, not the model (though showing it ON the model helps up the heat)
  2. The site doesn't show the models without the merchandise
  3. It'd still be stealing someone else's picture

Look I'm not sure about "allowed" or not, but writers do not use things like this to illustrate anything in their stories.

It would show your skills as a writer not to include a link or anything as such. Being a writer means that you have the ability to summon images into people's minds, using their own imagination nonetheless. So do that.

I personally would be more prone to read your story if you just described the item in question rather than provide a link to it. I could provide links to a lot of of mg stories to help get across what I was trying to say to my audience, but then... I wouldn't really be a writer then... would I?

Use the description to your advantage and make it your own. Make a memorable story from it, as memorable as irlt obviously is to you. Readers will love you for it. Better than if they had to click a link to see what it was you were talking about.

No, links aren't allowed in Literotica stories. Nor are copyrighted images.

Thank you. I thought of that as well.

It's just... well, as elaborate as I might want to be, (I pride myself on setting descriptive moods, so that's not an issue honestly, and I can like the challenge at times), this just almost difficult to do justice to.

I would agree. On the difficulty.

But... a writer has to convey what is in their head as best as possible. Sometimes, your ability to do so is the deciding factor on how well an audience perceives your work.

Write it as best you can. I know that many will not encourage such a long and descriptive style of writing, but for an item like such that you as an author are so passionate about, it seems relevant that you would include such a description that would prove pivotal to spend the time to describe.

I've seen it debated. A tattoo that shouldn't be elaborated upon "that much". A sex position that didn't need describing "that much". But honestly, a writer wields the magic of guiding the reader where he/she wants an audience to go. And if this attire means that much to you and your story that it inspired the writing, then describe it to the best of your writing ability.

I guarantee it will work for some. If you have the stuff, it will work for very many. That defines you as a writer. As a writer, you are a word smith. To inspire with only words is a powerful thing. Don't resort to simply "showing" the reader what you are trying to convey, have them visualize it through the power of your words.

Find a better way than a link. A writer will do this. For, if your words fail you, then how much of a writer are you?

Yup... that's kinda what I thought. Thanks.

Thus the challenge. I'm better at portraying actions, emotions, or feelings than I am at describing objects.

But I'll make it work.

Thanks for your input.

Good luck in your endeavors then. And just know, we as readers would prefer your words over a link any day.

I've used the wicked weasel in a couple of stories and had no one wonder what i was talking about. Must be a bunch of porn heads on this site. :D

To be honest, I don't see why not.
After all, there is such a thing as "product placement".

What you MUST do, however, is ask Wicked Weasel for permission to publish their picture and credit them as the source, with thanks.
