Can I have illustrations and not be in the illustrated category

I am working on a story. It will contain an illustration - a map - but
I don't want to have the story categorised under illustrated, when
the story will be very much in the Sci-Fi/Fantasy category.

If I include a map, will it have to go in the illustrated category?

No, it doesn't have to go to Illustrated, but you'll have explain it in the notes field when you submit it.
