"Yes baby," I pat your butt. "Now," I say as you climb in the car. I hand you a pink wrapped present. "Open it."

I tell you to keep looking in the box. You do, and find I got a gift of my own, as you find a tiny, velvety night gown that matches your shoes.

I laugh and smile. "Again, thank you, baby," I say with another peck on your cheek. "They're a set?" I ask.

I giggle and smile. My mood has lifted, thanks to you. "Do the girls really talk about me?" I ask. I'm still incredulous about the fact.

"Not all the time," I say. "But I heard Kaylee tell Riley how pretty you were, and Riley told her how she used to hate you, but always thought you were beautiful."

I give a small smile. "Riley once told me I'm every high school teacher's worst nightmare and every college boy's dream."

I smile my sad smile. "I just haven't really seen myself that way, especially after. . . well, what happened in high school. . . destroyed a lot of my self-esteem."

"I'm sorry baby," I say, squeezing your hand. "I want you to know you're amazing. Sexy doesn't start to describe it."

I take you home before your class. "I don't have to be at work for a couple of hours," I say. "When do you go to school?"
