"I'm just wondering!" I snap a little more than I intend to. I grimace a bit more. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to sound snappy. I just. . . it's getting a bit worse."

"Because you're letting her games work," I say, treading dangerously. "It's going to be okay. Just ignore her and she'll stop." I drive to a nearby bistro, Je Bleu Rosé. "Let's get brunch, okay?"

We take a spot on the bistro patio and I order a tall espresso and some sort of egg and sausage souffle with a crepe.

"So what do you think that was about?" I ask you. "I mean, the leak was nothing at all, and she knew the staff would be in soon. Did she think I wanted to come in early on a day when I was going on vacation and fuck her in the managers office?? Really??"

"Yes, she did," I say honestly. "She didn't count on you bringing me along. Remember, she's absolutely crazy about you, and wants you back. She thinks that the outburst when you had fucked Kara was just a mistake she made, didn't think you would move on. So now she scares off any woman who gets near you."

I kiss you back. "Nah, she just makes me want to shove something up that big ass of hers." I say with a small growl. I give you a guilty smile.

I eat the fruit and smile. "Absolutely. I'm looking forward to it." I reach over and squeeze your hand.

We make our way to my place and pack, before stopping at your place because you say you need to get something. I follow you in and look around. "Has anyone lived here in like, 6 months?" I tease you.

I laugh. "yeah, just not the past couple days. There's not a lot." I run to my bedroom to grab my hiking boots. I sometimes hiked in the summer, but that was it.

I come back into the living room.

Your fridge is full of pictures...you and some guy. You and another cute girl. You in some hot club clothes. And you cozied up to some much older guy. "Who are these people?" I ask.

I point to the picture of me and the guy. "That's my best friend Kris. . . he was killed last year, drunk driver got to him, rammed his car off the guard rail and into an oak." I point to the one next to it. "That's my best friend Crystal, she and I still talk occasionally, she ended up getting in at UC Berkely. And that. . ." I hesitate on the final picture, the one with me and an older guy. "That's me and my dad, four days before he died," I finally say quietly, stroking the picture.

"Oh," I see your eyes water a bit. "I'm....I'm sorry." I wrap my arms around you from behind and kiss you on your temple.

I hold onto your arms and wipe away a few stray tears. "It's okay. It was just. . . a difficult time for me. My dad and I were always very close, so for him to die just a week after my high school graduation. . . I couldn't deal with it very well." I gave a small smile. "He used to joke that even though I was dating all these gentlemen, I'd find myself a rogue one day."

I lean up against you and sigh. "I know I will." I look up at you happily. "There are times I think I've found him, though."
