"Nothing!" I snap. "Nothing is going on, nothing is wrong!"

The baby wakes up and I quickly feed him, recognizing his cries.

"Lynn," she says, lowering her intensity. "People don't do shit like that for nothing. Tell me what happened."

"I'd rather not talk about it," I state shortly. "It's not a big deal, just a nasty habit I'm trying to break."

"Fine. I did something I'm not proud of, and this is what I do when I'm upset with myself. Happy?" I say. Talking about it with you was one thing. Talking to Riley? Yeah, that was a different can of worms.

"Well," she says, sensing your irritation. "When you're ready to talk or if you just want to, you find me. Don't do that shit." She points at your wrist.

"Alright, hun," I say with a sigh. Suddenly, my lower lip begins to tremble, as my emotions get the better of me. I really didn't want to push Riley away, but I didn't want her to. . . well, lecture me.

Riley heads back to the bar and the rest of the day carries on. Around mid morning a thunderstorm blows in, and the lightning and thunder makes baby Reece babble and jolt in his carrier. I bring you a drink from the bar and some lunch, always keeping an eye on you, with a smile.

I smile as you bring me lunch and I gently nibble on the food and the drink. "Thank you, baby," I whisper to you. I hold Reece and listen to him babble.

As the evening crowd rolls in, you and Reece become something of a hit. All of the girls on campus seem to drop by and play with the baby. Many ask whose it is, wondering why the cute hostess is playing with someone's child. Most learn he is mine and follow with an "Awwwww!" as they never knew I had a kid, though mamy knew me and flirted with me every time they came in. Toward the early evening I got things squared away with Don and came over to you and mini Reece. "You guys are popular," I say picking up the little man.

I chuckle. "I guess we are," I say, watching the two of you. My lower lip trembles at how close I was to loosing both of you.

"Yeah," I say. I get up and I look around and wave bye to Riley and gather my things. "Let's head out of here," I say.

I go and put Reece to bed, smiling softly. I come back downstairs and tentatively wrap my arms around you. "Do you need a drink, baby?" I ask softly.

I go over and mix you a bourbon and bring it back over to you, rubbing your shoulders. "That feel good?" I ask demurely.
