Few people know their roots unless they spend the time and money to do a diligent search. I did, and what I found wasn't what I was told. For example, I have 3 immigrant ancestors as almost all of us were in America when the USA came to be in 1783. Three Irish came over in the early 1800s.

My wife makes a big deal of her Mayflower ancestors but her Dutch ancestors were settled at New York before the Mayflower sailed. Ditto her two Virginia ancestors. Already here.
