I was told at a camera shop that the best bet if a camera was dropped into water, was to dip it in gasoline, but that was back in the days of more manual cameras.
surprisingly, I would actually just go on Kodak's website and ask. They would likely think that the camera ended up in petrolium jelly because of a child, so don't tell them the Ex-GF did it.
The oils from the vasaline are not that bad for the camera itself... and with the seals it didn't likely get inside. so start with Q-tips and cloths just wiping off as much as possible... I mean unless she opened the camera and ensured the insides were covered I think you'd be okay
