Okay guys and gals I have been suckered by some puppy dog eyes into quieting the demons running around in Neale's head. Though I dont know if it will work. I also want to go on record saying that I agreed to GM this BEFORE I found out there were 25 freakin knights of the round table. (Neale, you will pay for this)

Anyway, I am looking at this as a challenge and, if we get lots of people we will probably break up into groups and go search for different parts of the quest....what? I havent told you what this is all about? Oh, sorry...blame the heat.

Okay, here is the story. Merlin from King Arthur time is still alive and kicking. (I will GM as Merlin, btw). He has been battling Arthur's half sister Morgan le Fay the whole time (played by our own Imoen). Neale will be King Arthur but he will not be a major character in this until later.

It is the year 2001 and the signs have told Merlin that it is time for the Knights of the Round Table to rise again and to put down Morgan le Fay for the final time before she can bring death and destruction to the world. (Kind of an end of the world as we know it thing). The problem is that the knights were killed along time ago when Arthur was taken to Avalon (I believe my history is correct here) after being mortally wounded. Arthur sleeps in kind of a suspended animation in a place known only to Merlin but he cannot be awaken until the knights have arisen once more.

We solve this problem by magics which Merlin worked over each knight before his death. These magics bide the souls of the knights to remain earthbound until the time was right and then each soul picks out a newborn babe that has the strengths and moral courage to contend with the evil Merlin saw would rise up in this day. The soul remains passive in the babe as it grows to an adult and will be called forth by Merlin at the appointed time.

Now comes the fun part. The babes that were picked were not always men so this game is open to both men and women. Pick a knight, any knight and lets have fun. It will add to the plot to have some of the knights going bonkers in women's bodies or even for them to feel comfortable with them strange as that may seem to their fellows.

Now, the people of the 21st Century that house these spirits dont know it yet. They are dormant. But we will start with Merlin showing up on people's doorsteps and 'drawing out' the spirit of the knight within them BUT they will not forget their 21st Century knowledge or who they are (were) before Merlin does his thing. They will remember their families, their pasts (both of them) and they will have to come to grips with them. Once the knight's spirit is 'awaken' their sense of duty will compell them to follow Merlin how they balance that with the 21st Century memories and duties is an individual thing.

Then it is time for training and on to the quest. Oh, and Morgan will be throwing obsticles in everyone's paths so that they dont meet our good wizard so expect the unexpected.

Now that that loooong intro is done, lets get on with naming the chars. I am going to name the chars that we REALLY need to fill first. These are the main people you hear in legends and then I will make another list with those knights who were part of the round table but whom you dont hear alot about. WE need to fill out the first column first unless some history buff really wants to play one of the others. After we fill the first column, the second will be open and, when we stop getting bids for the knights we will start with whom we have.

First List:

Merlin-GMed by me

Morgan le Fay (Arthur's half sister)-Imoen

King Arthur-Neal

Sir Lancelot du Lac-indyweasel
was the best of the best in the circle of the Round Table, able to call on all the powers of a Paladin, until he was tricked into loving King Pelle's daugher, the lovely Elaine, who bore him a son, Sir Galahad. He was forced to leave the side of King Arthur, who had treated him as the king's champion, he still came back to aid the king in times of need, going on all the major quests, and defending Arthur's side in major battles.

Sir Galahad (Lancelot's illigitamate son)-Ask For More
Perfect representation of knighthood, paragon of purity and
invincibility. Successfully completed the quest for the Holy Grail.

Sir Gawain-MntAngelWV
Favorite cousin of King Arthur, noted for being vengeful, willing to go to any length to avenge a wrong done him or his family. Has a magical 'gift': 9am to noon, he gains in strength, reaching giant strength at noon, then returning to normal after the twelfth stroke of noon.

Sir Percivale (he traveled with Galahad to retrieve the Holy Grail)-Inkubus

Sir Bors de Ganis (he traveled with Galahad to retrieve the Holy Grail)-captainb
A son of King Ban of Benoic and brother to Lionel, he was rumored to also be Lancelot's cousin. He was a shrewd tactician and physically very strong (in his first incarnation). He was one of the three who actually saw the Grail with Galahad and Perceval, but he was denied its fulfillment. After the death of Sir Galahad he returned to King Arthur and gave him an account of all the circumstances connected with the achievement. Later, he died fighting in the Crusades.

Sir Lionell-Morganna

Sir Gareth (Gawain's brother)-Poohlive
Youngest son of King Lot, served in kitchens while a page, grew to hate Sir Kay, who taunted him and called him Beaumains. Most modest of all the knights, was known for always helping a lady in distress, especially one Lady Lyoness. Noted for the many colors he used on his armor and shield.

Sir Bedivere-Kepic
Physically very strong (though not as strong as Gawain). Bedivere was the childhood friend of Arthur. He was the most loyal of Arthur's knights, and the most trusted. He was Arthur's Cup-Bearer, and constant companion. He was kind and gentle. He was the one to cast Excaliber back into the waters, and the last to leave Arthur's side at the end.

Sir Kay (The son of the man who raised Arthur)-rdh996

Sir Mordred-Xanthem

Sir Tristam de Lyones-Angelius
Known for his skill at arms and savagery in battle, this knight was
considered by many to be second only to Launcelot in battle skills. Tristram is well-known for his ill-fated romance with the beautiful Lady Isolde, who is married to the evil and cowardly King Mark.

King Pellinore (Alaric)
Fought with King Arthur and almost defeated him. Later joined the Round
Table and became one of the Queen's guards. Pellinore hunts a strange
unique creature, the Questing Beast, which his family is fated to
pursue, though neither they nor anyone else will ever catch it.

Sir Palomedes-NicelyNicelyJohnson
A bitter rival of Sir Tristram, was noted for the quickness of his
scimitar and his courage in battle. Also noted for his use of a
composite bow.

Sir Lamorak-HotStuff
Son of King Pellinore, constant champion at many tournaments held by Queen Margawse(his lover), was the death of many of the knights of the Round Table (at tournaments). His greatest enemy was Sir Gawaine and his brothers.

Sir Safer-Destiny_Brent

Sir Pelleas-Dianno
A born romantic. He first appears in the hopeless pursuit of Ettard. Sir Gawain promises to assist Pelleas , but becomes Ettard's lover instead. Nimue (The Lady of the Lake) casts a spell to allow him to recover from his love. and he married Nimue.

Sir Brunor le Noir-Ariosto

Sir Agravaine-(Brother to Gawaine)-BadForm

Guinevere (will be played by Jadedpast) and Isolde(will be played by Serah) will be resurrected by Morgan. They are going to play major though unwitting roles in the distractions of our knights. (Everyone knows about the Guinevere/Arthur/Lancelot thing and Isolde was lover to Tristam...and no cracks about the name guys! hehehehe). Nimue/The Lady of the Lake (played by Siren) will be called upon by Arthur to help him in his quest for the knights.

Now, just because we have Isolde in this mix does not mean a girl could not play Tristam...it would be interesting to the plot...so everyone feel free to pick whomever you want.

Sooooo....anyone who would like to participate in this thread, please post what knight you would like to be, who your present day host (starting char) would be and what background they come from not to mention a little about the life they are leading now.

Thank you and I hope to see you on the playing board.

This sounds like a really exciting idea. I have to go brush up on my history a bit, but it will be worth it. I would love to play Mordred, but if someone else is really dying for the part, I would take on Lionell, too.

Either way, the 2001 character will be Kyle Manning, sophmore at NYU, burgeoning alchoholic, ne'er-do-well, and about to fail out. His middle-class parents live in Ohio and know little of their son's bad habits. They do, however, know that he didn't come home for any holidays last year.

Let me know if this is enough to start. Also, I will wait to hear if anyone is desperate for Mordred, otherwise I will take the role.

Sign me up for Gawain

Sir Gawain is a major character and I'm a complete newbie, but what the hell.

Sir Gawain's 21st century reincarnation finds him as an Associate Professor of micro-bioligy in an Ivy League university. In his early 40's, he's made a good name for himself professionally, but his personal life has been somewhat less successful. His two failed marriages were the direct result of his inability to say no to the female graduate students who wanted a little "extra curricular" help. In his mind, he was doing the chivalrous thing, but his wives thought otherwise.

He lives alone on the ourskirts of the city and is considered nice, if excentric by his neighbors.

Sir Galahad is mine!

To add some international flavour Sir Galahad's reincarnation is a young 21 year old living in Hong Kong. Richard Ko, a smart kid who was forced into joining the triads while still in school. At first he thought it was cool, since he was a good figher, and rose quickly in the ranks. However, after seeing his best friend killed by a rival gang member, he's started to realise that a life of crime is not really what he wants.

Guinevere

if any objections.... I can take on a knight that is now in female form lol

She is the only one that looked familiar to me lol

Wonderful and welcome aboard tinsnip!

I would love to see some talented 'newbies' come on here and role play with us. I know there are many out there and playing with others that we havent before as well as those that are well known and well loved would make this thread great.

So come on and dont be shy. Even if this would be your first thread we can use the new blood and it would be an excellent one to cut your teeth on!

Yeah, no one called it, so I call dibs on Gareth. He's mine. I haven't actually done research specifically for a role playing before, I suppose there's a first time for everything.

Okay, if nobody objects then I'll be Sir Tristam- I just read his bio and he sounds like a damn good character.

His modern equivalent is a 24 year old fantasy author (go figure) and is very well known and liked. He has a strange chivalrous streak. He often goes to help people who are in trouble and is friendly and extremely generous.

Perceval (I know theres a million spellings)

If no one minds I have a pentient for playing this type of chars . I will carry Perceval's Burden.

May I not fail you this time Arthur.....

Newbie here as well - but not confident enough to take on a major character. Any problems if I take a (Second level) Knight in Sir Pelleas Al'Davor. Reason being that if I have to pull out, or can't manage online as oftern as needed it won;t impact too much ont he game. Mind you, I think I have an interesting twist to offer for his new host...

--Sir Pelleas--

A born romantic. He first appears in the hopeless pursuit of Ettard. Sir Gawain promises to assist Pelleas , but becomes Ettard's lover instead. Nimue (The Lady of the Lake) casts a spell to allow him to recover from his love. and he married Nimue.

More details can be found in this excellent article http://www.et-tu.com/damosels/dpages/ettard.htm

Born iinto...
-- Tyler Strachan --

Before the car accident 2 years ago that took away his Wife and daughter, Tyler led an active life as a Forestry Commission Ranger around the Loch Tay area in Scotland. Now crippled from the waist down and forced to spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair, he has become a virtual recluse, shunning all contact with the outside world. Now in his late 40's, he lives in a solitary small cottage on the banks of his beloved Loch Tay, with only Skip, a springer spaniel, to keep him company.

Yea! This is shaping up to be a wonderful thread.

Now, if we can just fill in the last four top spots and find an Isolde we can get on the road.

Come on, girls! Take a spot and join in...this should be fun no matter what position you play.

Uhm Isolde??

I feel super guilty about asking especially since your Screen name is Isolde , so its a MAJOR pressure to not screw it up.;)

Uhm *fidgets* If no one else wants it , Ill try to live up to the name .:)

If anyone does not object Ill be Sir Kay.
charicters description: 21 years old black hair steel grey eyes and he is 6'1" tall.

nights past:Sir Kay is the foster-brother of the High King and was raised as part of
the class of Household Knighthood. It is perhaps due to this that he
takes so pragmatic a view of the tasks of rulers, and is so unimpressed by
the pretentions of the Court. Kay is the voice of practicality surrounded
by idealists. He isn't religious, he isn't chivalrous and although he's
romantic, his armor is for Gwenivere, meaning it is diffuse so that it
takes little time away from his more important tasks. The realm must be
defended. Knights must be trained. Young men need their baby fat knocked
out of them. Kay is, in the stories, regularly defeated by knights with
far less experience, because the Magic of Britain sustians them against
him. His time, the time of warriors and lands and strategy and ordinance,
is both passed and yet to come. In his role as Steward of the Realm Kay
is extremely valuable to the Gamesmaster as a hook for stories. Kay
knows where the adventures are to be found and can sometimes estimate if a
character is likely to fail, by comparing them with previous questers. In
the Courts of King Arthur, Kay is the man who always has a little problem
he'd like the player-characters to solve.

MY charicters past: This is my charictor Rick Jackson. I have led a troubled life, At age 11 i joined a gang that my older brother was in i was in it till they gave me a gun and tried to get me to take out my own brother for challanging for leadership. Dad died when i was 12, Mom when i was 13. Ran away from my aunts house at 17. got thrown in jail for a year cause i was caught shoplifting. When i got out of jail i got a job at a boxing arenia as a janitor and after awile joined up and became pretty good at it. Im 21 now and am going after my first championship belt.

I'd like to pick up Sir Bors.

Or so the tales go...

For a real twist, his soon-to-be current form is female. Her name is Julianna, a slightly overweight Hispanic/American living in east Los Angeles with her parents. At twenty-three, she is desperately trying to raise enough money to live on her own. She works a piddly job in a tape rental store and spends evening with a small circle of mostly drunk and stoned friends. Fear and frustration rule her life, and her only confidant is Pascal, a stray calico cat that has adopted her for meals and occasional petting. She hates the city, but it's all she knows. The only time she can forget is late at night, reading romance novels by a naked 40-watt bulb.

Beautiful...just beautiful.

We now have all but two of the major knights of the group and all the ladies parts.

But ladies, please step up and grab a knight. Things are going to get going soon and I know you can kick ass just as well as the guys!

And Serah...dont worry about it..you will do fine. The irony of the situation is not lost on me but I honestly did not know of the lady when I picked the name. Welcome and thank you for saving me from having to make the situation more ironic by playing the lady!

:D ;)

Ah... um... which character to pick... as a brit, and a long-time fan of Arthurian legend, I've got to get in on this one... will have to dig out my Pendragon game books... hmm... I'll get back to you... save a seat at the round table for me!

Don't forget the Lady of the Lake, Nimue...

* * *

Okay, picked now...

Sir Bedivere - past:
Physically very strong (though not as strong as Gawain). Bedivere was the childhood friend of Arthur. He was the most loyal of Arthur's knights, and the most trusted. He was Arthur's Cup-Bearer, and constant companion. He was kind and gentle. He was the one to cast Excaliber back into the waters, and the last to leave Arthur's side at the end.

Present - Jacob O'Malley
An irish-american, inherited owner of a pub in downtown LA, the 'Cup-Bearer', late 20's, early greying dark-brown hair, steely blue-gray eyes. At a fraction of an inch over six foot, he keeps fit and eats well (and often).

Consider a seat saved, Kepic...always a pleasure rping with you.

Hey this seems like a really fun thread, I'd like to be lady of the Lake if she is not taken. She didn't appear much in the book and movie but I hope that changes in this thread,

Past: Known at Nimue the lady of the lake she was the one that provided Arthur with the Excaliber a legendary sword. Not much is known about her except she is the sister of Morgana.

Her present name is: Lily Mc'lachlin
She lives in Ireland as a Marine Biologist, she has a facination for water creatures. She is kind and loving and is often found helping those in need. She has long Golden hair and a fair complexion. Her eyes are a Bright clear blue. She is slender and tall yet strong for her build.

Any problems let me know!

OK...sign me up for Sir Brunor le Noir , I have no idea who he is but I like the name.
Heading for the Library....

I am pondering takin gthe part of Sir Tristam if I knew anything about him and Isolde. Can you point me to the cliff notes version. lol Or maybe just a brief rundown. Sorry for my ignorance!

I'll try myself at being Sir. Safer, must look up more but I'd love to give it a try. I'll post his reincarnation as a woman later :)

MntAngel,

Angelius has already taken Tristam but you are more than welcome to take any of the other knights. We would love to have you.

And for everyone...

Neale says that the D&D book Dieties and Demigods have a section on the Knights of the Round Table. It has a background and their special strengths in it.

I am going to try to pick up a book and if not Neale is going to get me their stats via the internet. I will then ship off the stats of their knight to each one that wants one.

Sir Gawain

Sign me up for the Notes please. Anything you find will be most welcome. Thanks!

Sorry about that! It was a bit confusing. I think that Sir Lionell is left?? Or you can match me to anyone that is left! I would like to have some of his facts if you get a chance. Thanks!

My present day charcter:

Penelope Winslow- 32 - librarian - afraid of her own shadow as she is very shy - never had a date in her life - if anyone could get close enough they would find out that she is quite attractive - hides her light under a bushel so to speak - has glasses, wears her hair in a severe bun on top of her head - at home, however, on the internet she turns quite bold as the people she meets cannot see her.
