C.S.I. tonight is repeating the episode about the dominatrix. It was suprisingly sympathetic to BDSM, and hinted that some of the characters knew a little more about it than you might think...

CBS, 10 PM EST. I don't know if it is on outside the U.S.A.

Damn.. I missed it... But that's okay... Cause I'm with my love *grins*

I saw it. Thought it provided some good coverage of Professional Dominatrixes (or Professional Tops). I don't think it covered BDSM as a whole however. The key points it portrayed were the huge amount of money that place took in per week, and that there were a ton of men with some serious kinks. I don't think many true submissives go to a place like that. The other thing I had to doubt was the fact that the Madam knew about the vicitims outside playing. I seriously doubt a place like that would allow it.

I think the madam of the house was pretty awesome too. I don't think her "abilities" were specific to a Domme. She was just very good at reading people. There are many jobs and people with that ability. I would have really liked it if they'd played up that relationship between the Madam and Grisson some more. Maybe showed a little heat between them, either on a BDSM level or a plain vanilla level. I think they had some good banter going on there.

I think they left it open too. In regards to the job offer Grisson hinted at when he was talking to her. I personally think it would kick ass if they brought that Madam character back.

PBW "Huge C.S.I. Fan"

There have been severla shows that have treated BDSM in a halfway decent way in recent years, for example, the episode of Homicide that dealt with it. But since these are TV dramas, they still tend to make things lurid. But the CSI episode (and Im with you, PBW, I think its a great program, Im looking forward to the Miami version) gave someone in the role of a person within BDSM a good chance to explain themselves and what it is all about.

I don't watch much TV drama, so I've missed these.

I did read a review of a BDSM-themed movie coming out, though--and if the Movieline reviewer's reaction says anything, I have the impression it's pretty lifestyle-accurate: s/he expressed surprise that it appeared the submissive partner has more "power" than it seems.

In any case, the movie's called Secretary. It stars James Spader and Maggie Gylenhaal (sp?), and it will likely get a bit of advertising budget, because it did very well at Sundance.

I was flipping around and saw part of that episode. I guess I didn't give it a chance. I thought it was pretty hokey and changed the channel. DAMN! I hate it when that happens.

I keep coming back to this thread..

because C.S.I. is a tekkie sounding acronym and that's like putting up a huge light for my moth-like brain.

I didn't see it either. Maybe it would have given me some hope that BDSM is finally being fairly represented in Hollywood. Was it all stereotypical fettish gear and cliches, or was it more diversified representation of a cross section of BDSM people?

If any of ya'll want to check out C.S.I. from the beginning, I've seen commercials that they are re-airing the first season of C.S.I. on Nick-at-night or some such station. I'm not sure if it was Nick, but it was a channel like that. Maybe FX. Anyhoo... I know it's coming pretty soon.

Same here Andreina... if I had to choose another career at this point, I'd want to be one of these nerdy techie guys that do stuff with the computers. I probably could at this point... I have a CS degree... so I'd just have to go back for a criminal forensic degree. But the pay sucks I think. But I guess those guys don't do it for the pay.

PBW "Probably not a good idea to have me carrying a gun anyway LOL"

"Ksstttt... yeah... can you, uhm, send a paramedic down here to the lab again... the "dumbass" shot himself in the foot again."

I was that <--> close to enroll for the Post-Grad Forensic Anthropology programme at the University of Bradford in the UK.

that <--> close.

Fox is going to run the entire season of CSI...you can catch

it there. they also had an episode on Law & Order one time that

showed BDSM in a rather positive light.

Another movie that dealt with it in a different manner was

titled "Jade" but i can't remember who starred in it....

Andreina,

Is Bradford noted for Forensics? Did a better opportunity come up?

:rose: :rose: :rose: :rose:

bradford has a very good reputation for forensic anthropology and archaeology (where you have to take certain courses).

no better opportunity - i just got very ill at the end of my last semester at uni and wasn't allowed to study anymore.

Love C.S.I.

Yeah .. I've seen that episode twice ... it was good, though having a "sub" hire out to someone they really don't know kinda didn't sit well with me.

On another note, Boomtown is suppose to be starting up soon, it looks good too.

Looking forward to more Law and Orders to, though I don't like Criminal Intent.

The imagery was pretty much the same old whips and chains, but what I thought set this presentation apart was that the Domme character was given a chance to actually explain the appeal of BDSM, and the investigator played by Marg Helgenberger was sympathetic, taking it as a compliment when she was told she'd make a great Domme.

It's true. And the new show has my dream girl Kim Delaney on it.
