By personalising the "war" against terrorism...

Has the US Government made a huge mistake?

So far bin Laden is still at large. The Administration keep on saying they will get him. "It may take days, it may take weeks, it may take months, it may take years", but they will get him.

The BBC has reported that "people" have approached various tribal units in Somalia for "talks".

Rumours abound that Iraq is the next target.

It's beginning to look as though America is going to be dragged into wars of such a global nature that her future security and prosperity is bound to be placed under threat.

Has the US Government painted itself into a corner?

By personalising the "war" will the failure to capture or kill bin Laden be seen by the American public that the "war" has failed, with the subsequent affect on popularity ratings?

Has the Government "grabbed a tiger by it's tail" and can't stop now even if it wanted to?

From an outside perspective I would say yes.

The quicker he's found the better for everyone.

:(

Why do you even care, since you hate our government so much?

Because, unfortunately, as Bush's Government is so fond of telling the rest of us "America is the Leader of the Free World".

Well if it is. And I don't really have an argument with that, you can expect me to criticise a Leader, the Government of which, is showing such crass incompetence...

:p

Holy shit, PPman. You asked a legitimate question. What's gotten into you?

The US Govt. certainly took a risk by personalizing this conflict because as you rightly point out, Americans and the world now won't see us as "winning" without killing bin Laden (that's what "bringing him to justice" means, of course) even if we effectively make Al Qaeda impotent. With or without the focus on bin Laden though, this conflict seems bound to go global. The latest information I've read says that Al Qaeda has a presence in over 60 countries around the world and the organization is sufficiently decentralized that many of these cells can go on planning terror attacks even after the leadership and home base in Afghanistan are shut down. We would irresponsible not to continue while we have the political will at home and a coalition abroad.

You're right that the Gov. is now pretty much committed to military action in multiple nations whether or not the go after other governments or organizations besides Al Qaeda.

Did you see the uncovered Al Qaeda plans to detonate several large truck bombs like the ones used to attack the two US embassies in Africa? Apparently Al Qaeda isn't too fond of y'all either. ;)

Dito to above. You pretty much said everything I was going to damn you.

God I don't know. I feel quite faint now.:p

I've read a number of reports, one from Australia, that al Qaeda has plans for the UK. But we've always assumed he would have.

We put a lot of faith in our well oiled anti-terrorist machinery. But nothing can stop the determined bomber.

London has been bombed three times by the Real IRA this year and there are unofficial figures that a total of 11 "devices" were detonated in controlled explosions.

3 Mar 2001 — Taxi packed with high explosives explodes outside BBC Television centre in Shepherd's Bush, London.
14 Apr 2001 — A small explosion detonates at a sorting office in Hendon, No London.
5 May 2001 — A small explosion detonates at a sorting office in Hendon, No London.
