Sorry I couldn't help it.

I just saw an ad for the newest "Survivor".

I still remember sitting down with my father and turning on the tube to tune in to the first Survivor Show.

We made it about 15 minutes before my father turned to me and with a smirk commented that none of these people would have made it on one of our camping trips. We both cracked up, turned off the TV and cracked a couple of cold ones.

What these shows call surviving is nothing more than playing.

I would love to see these people in a true survial situation.

SeaCat: Have you watched "Survivor Man"? I think it's on the Discovery Channel. One man, a few things and a video camera. That's it.

Nope,

Haven't seen that one. from what you say it might be interesting. I'll have to look for it.

I watched one episode of Survivor under extreme protest. I can't see why it's so popular.

SeaCat: Here's the link to the show's website and a brief teaser.

Survivor Man

No food, no shelter, no fresh water, no tools... no camera crew. One man - alone in the wild for seven days with only his wits and stamina to sustain him.

Airing on “The Science Channel” in the U.S., and “The Outdoor Life Network” in Canada, each episode finds “Survivorman” Les Stroud abandoned in a remote location. He carries little more than the clothes on his back – and his cameras. Les not only needs to survive for a week without supplies, but he has to film everything himself, lugging over fifty pounds of camera gear the entire time. The Costa Rican rainforest, Arctic ice-flows, Georgian swamp and the high Sonora desert include a few locales where Les has overcome seemingly impossible obstacles.

Looks and sounds interesting. I'll have to try an find it down here.

I mentioned to my father that this new version of Survivor was coming up and asked him if he wished me to tape it for him. After he stopped cussing he started laughing.

He asked me if I remembered our last camping trip to Maine. We spent two weeks one fall tromping around in the woods living out of our packs and on what we managed to catch or shoot. Oh do I remember that trip. It was an absolute blast although we did have a couple of cold camps and a couple of meal less nights.
