Buy American for Energy Projects!

Your glorious leader would prefer it if you used American coal.

So this is another Obama Administration gift to the American People.

This isn't a magic beanstalk that was just planted this Spring...

Someone is continuing to water and fertilize it.

No, it's been a done deal for years upon years now.

Consider the permitting process, the required environmental impact studies, etc., and the project has been a done deal for a long time and to try and stop it now would bring DC area lawsuits for years to come, so it is just easiest to let it go forward and fail teaching the investors a harsh lesson on pipe dreams.

I guess if you don't invest anything in green energy then you can't build and have to buy it from somebody that does. If you don't keep up with the rest of the world you get left behind..hey, hows that metric thing going for y'all

Government is not an efficient allocator of resources and, especially in the area of green energy it has been a lousy picker of winners.

If you create something tat people want, then you will find investors who are willing to take a risk with their own resources in the hope of a return. Government takes no risk when it "invests" in projects and the return is what the entity gets that now has no real incentive to succeed, since it's gotten free money and the potential of free money down the road because government is want to throw good money after bad to cover up its "investment" failures.

Is Germany doing itself and its citizens a failure to pay over $.40 per kilowatt hour, or is the American government doing its citizens the favor at $.10 pkh?

Hey! Why don't we just wait until the fossil fuels run out and then switch to unproven, untested, unrefined and hugely expensive green energy. That will have to be imported. And with no free trade agreements think of the mega bucks the capitalists will rake in then. Not to mention the taxes and tariffs. No need for proactive thinking on governments part.

Didn't an expensive piece of Mars exploration equipment crash and burn because there was a mix up between Imperial and metric units. :D

The solar panels in the article's photo are outdated, too.

Tesla is in the installation phase of their new solar shingles. They are only offering this product in CA, though.

Anyway
This is an independent energy supplier that is going to set up shop in the US
It is contracting to lease govt land to build a solar farm on and will pay a lease.
They are investing in the US
Is the current point to stop furiners from investing in the US

i thought you just wanted buy American, not stop investment

We aren't going to run out of fossil fuel for decades numbered in the tens to hundreds.

I think in that time, left to their own devices, sharp minds will develop a new energy paradigm as long as government obeys the edict from the wine cask, "Get out of my light."

Why don't you tell the class when we're going to run out of fossil fuel, hmm?

What has that got to do with a French company wanting so sell solar power in the US NOW

If it ain't cheaper, mericans won't buy it..and its not imported,..its made from US sunshine

One would think that an American company would have the expertise to build this plant at Hanford.

BP's annual statistical review of world energy

Total world proved oil reserves reached 1687.9 billion barrels at the end of 2013, sufficient to meet 53.3 years of global production. The largest additions to reserves came from Russia, adding 900 million barrels and Venezuela adding 800 million barrels. OPEC members continue to hold the majority of reserves, accounting for 71.9% of the global total. South & Central America continues to hold the highest R/P ratio. Over the past decade, global proved reserves have increased by 27%, or over 350 billion barrels.

*now that is not to say we won't find more oil to add to the reserves or that some countries are under estimating their reserves, but at most with new reserves found, bearing in mind we are now looking in some pretty inhospitable hard to reach places, say 100 year*

*worse case scenario your kids see the end of oil and natural gas, natural gas is being developed at a quicker pace than oil, best bet your grandkids will see the end of oil and natural gas, doubt coal can take up the slack*

Why don't you tell the class when we're going to run out of fossil fuel, hmm?
We have already burned more fossil fuel than we can afford to. We're way in the red this year, and getting further in.

They need to put more money into foundations.

For example

See what happens when southerners and foreigners get involved! If any place gets movement due to frost it's here. Cold then warm then cold again followed by warm. Up and down, up and down.

Would somebody please explain economics, technology and resource evaluation so it can be understood by an 8-year old?

I'm tired of explaining this stuff to artistes (self-styled or otherwise), poets, hippies, victims of populist demagogues, sheeple, English majors and other dealers in fantasy and fiction.

Apparently your copious graphs aren't getting the job done.

You can stop any time, thanks.

In Louisiana I've seen some homes with the 1st gen solar shingles. They are much more aesthetically pleasing than the panels. You see them in nicer neighborhoods on nicer homes.

You see lots of solar panels in rural areas, redneck homes and trailer trash.
I'll have to take a picture of this one home. I call it redneck chic. They have solar panels on their tiny old home, and a gazebo with an old 8' satellite dish repurposed as a roof. They also have an old toilet bowl that serves as a flower pot. Their yard is actually kind of cute, and well kept.

I have neighbors with roof mounted solar arrays on both sides of me. One house is the same age as mine and the other is 10 years older. Instead of embracing the solar with it's potential break-even in 14 years, I have opted to install a very high efficiency heating/hot water supply system for the house, weatherize the place and use energy efficient lights, etc. While my electric meter does not run backwards on sunny days, it's quite comfortable to sit next to a large north facing triple glazed window in the dead of winter when it's below zero outside and the wind is howling. I prefer this to being smug about my electric bill while wearing a heavy sweater.
