Bush and Kerry on the Actual Issues

Speaking on behalf of Vietnam veterans in his Senate testimony on April 22, 1971, John Kerry said, "We wish that a merciful God could wipe away our own memories of that service..." Thirty-three years later, it's clear that his plea fell on deaf ears. Kerry recalls his Vietnam service in virtually every campaign speech he makes. At the Boston convention, his four-month stint in Vietnam was repeatedly invoked as his primary qualification for the presidency.

There are some conservatives out here. I can't speak for any of the rest, but I just don't feel like debating.

Why, did your subscription to NRO expire? :p

WHO WROTE KERRY'S COMBAT REPORTS? KERRY? [08/26 09:42 AM]

Jeez, the answer to "who wrote Kerry's combat reports" has been right in front of us all along - CNSNews found it.

Somebody told us who wrote the combat reports for John Kerry back in 1971. He testifed under oath before Congress about it, in fact. Here it is:

Senator, I had direct experience with that and I can recall often sending in the spot reports which we made after each mission; and including the GDA, gunfire damage assessments, in which we would say, maybe 15 sampans sunk or whatever it was. And I often read about my own missions in the Stars and Stripes and the very mission we had been on had been doubled in figures and tripled in figures...
I also think men in the military, sir, as do men in many other things, have a tendency to report what they want to report and see what they want to see. And this is a very serious thing because I know on several visits - Secretary Laird came to Vietnam once and they staged an entire invasion for him. When the initial force at Dang Tam, it was the 9th Infantry when it was still there - when the initial recon platoon went out and met with resistance, they changed the entire operation the night before and sent them down into the South China Seas so they would not run into resistance and the Secretary would have a chance to see how smoothly the war was going.

I know General Wheeler came over at one point and a major in Saigon escorted him around. General Wheeler went out to the field and saw 12 pacification leaders and asked about 10 of them how things were going and they all said, "It is really going pretty badly." The 11th one said, "It couldn't be better, General. We are really doing the thing here to win the war." And the General said, "I am finally glad to find somebody who knows what he is talking about." (Laughter.)

This is the kind of problem that you have.

Who told Congress about writing spot reports and gun damage assessments, and the men reporting what they want to report and seeing what they want to see?

John Forbes Kerry, that's who.

So why should we consider those Navy documents to be more reliable than his seared — seared — memories?

You're not actually arguing or debating anything. The "Talking Points" thing is snot, and silly. What turkey is Kerry trying to get through the Senate? Kyoto is not his turkey. You're blathering, and full of bile.

Just. Talk.

i'm here for you, man.

You repeat yourself. But that's not how the Dem. talking points you posted portray it, do they? Hmmmmm?

Kerry couldn't get that turkey through the Senate with a bulldozer. :)

And Kerry can't get a tax hike through the house.

He's a pandering piece of shit. :D

And the 'Swifties' are sinking his water taxi. I hope the fucker drops dead just after he recovers from the electoral rejection he's going to get.

Nope. It's not worth the effort.

And I renewed the NRO and New Republic subscriptions both last month.

How about this issue:

Education

Bush: Championed a bipartisan overhaul of elementary and secondary education that toughened standards for teachers, schools and student achievement. Federal spending on education has jumped nearly 50 percent since Bush took office.

Kerry: Would establish $3.2 billion community service plan for high school students that would qualify them for the equivalent of their states’ four-year public college tuition if they perform two years of national service. Provide a tax credit for every year of college on the first $4,000 paid in tuition. Credit would provide 100 percent of the first $1,000 and 50 percent on the rest. Opposes private-school vouchers. Backed Bush overhaul but says too much emphasis is placed on tests for measuring student achievement; additional factors, such as attendance and parental satisfaction, should be considered.

"Teaching to the Test" is something the experts (i.e. "Teachers") wil tell you never works, and it isn't. Teachers are overloaded with method-heavy teaching requirements that do not take into account time wasted disciplining oversized classes and lack of supplies. As a result Teachers cannot teach to the Draconian timetables and meet the standards of the constant testing. Principals, in turn, have been regularly "cheating" by not reporting accurate testing scores, for fear of losing even more money from the States. End result -- kids aren't learning, teachers aren't being allowed to teach, and a whole lot of children left behind.

What's your opinion? We'd like to know.
