THE GERMAN COLLECTION

[Finadien]

Johan Wilhelm von Hohenlohe, a German noble who wants to sell some exquisite art objects from one of his small but opulent castles in Germany. He has made an appointment with Ms. Burrows so she can evaluate the objects personally.

Johan is 6'2" well build and in good shape. He had short dark blonde hair and a neatly cropped beard.

It came as no surprise when Johan Wilhelm made the appointment. One of the most interesting collectors was a well known personage at Burrows having worked with my father

I hadn't seem him for a while but I was pleased to hear from him, wondering if he was still as handsome as I remembered

I also wondered why he was selling a few items, my curiosity aroused

I organised for our driver to pick him up and to bring him directly to the Vermeer room

Johan Wilhelm von Hohenlohe was dressed in a very expensive dark blue suit accentuated with a toned down red and silver tie. His hair was cropped short but still long enough so you could see that his haircut was expensive as well. His shoes where clearly from Italy and the suitcase he carried was functional, simple yet stylish at the same time.

He left the car Burrows had sent to fetch him from the airport and followed the young, rather good looking assistant into the building and up to the Vermeer room. He had been here before and always liked the simple beauty of this room and he was sure that Kate Burrows had remembered that and put him in this room for exactly this reason.

The young assistant with the long blond hair, perfect body and a skirt that was just long enough to be considered modest in such an high profile business offered him a chair and served him a cup of the finest Brazilian coffee, another of those small things that her boss had remembered from his last visit.

He graced her with one of his smiles that he knew would make most women blush but apparently Ms. Burrows hat told this woman (girl?) what to expect. She just returned the smile, told him that Ms. Burrows would be with him in a moment and left the room.

He shrugged his shoulders, opened his suitcase and powered up the very expensive laptop contained within. Then he waited for Kate Burrows to grace him with her company.

Victoria walked briskly across the parquet floor, covering the space between her office and mine with staccato timing

'Herr von Hohenlohe is waiting for you in the Vermeer room as instructed Madame'

'Excellent, Victoria, now I am not to be disturbed for the next two hours'

I walked down the long corridor, thinking about the last time I had met Johan, father had 'chaperoned' me to a Spring ball held at one of Johan's residences the evening had been delightful and she had met a lot of interesting people - although she had not spent much time with the host

I pushed open the door and walked confidently into the room

'Aah Johan, such a pleasure to see you again' I said extending my hand for you to take, which you do with a slight bow and a brush of your lips across my hand

'I trust that you had a good trip and that you might be staying here for a few days ...'

"Good to see you too Kate" he answered looking her up and down just now remembering how gorgeous she was. "You look great!" he said as he held her at arms length to examine her better.

Then he let her go and continued.

"Actually I plan to stay as long as it takes to sort some things out. I have found this marvelous little caribbean island that's for sale and now I need just a little bit liquidity. I think that is a problem where you can be of assistance."

He pointed to his notebook. "I have brought some pictures from the objects I want to sell and hope you can give me an estimate and help me to find some buyers."

'Congratulations - I hear the islands are being collected as fast as others collect stamps'

I poured another coffee for you, serving myself a short black and then settling beside you

'Shall we run through the tedious things and then concentrate on other matters'

I watched as you presented the stunning collection, murmering with appreciation at the quality

As the final image crossed the screen I had already calculated the potential

Almost 100 million euros

'You may be able to buy two islands with the proceeds' I smiled, 'less our usual commission of course'

'I may have two buyers interested in this whole collection - which would be advantageous to both of us'

I opened my slim document case and extracted the contracts of sale

'Our commission remains unchanged at 50%' I remarked as I watched you glance across the neatly typed page

'Have you any questions?' I smiled wondering if everything was to your liking

I had heard that Johan had approached the year before a smaller house to handle a sale - obviously they had not succeeded or ...
