When I saw the polls were up for end of the year voting, I expected to see Soon My Sweet in the list because it has the same rating as Patricia51's story. My story won for the category in February.

I guess even though it doesn't state anything about the end of the year stories needing 50 votes.. it only says the TOP 4 rated stories from the 12 winners... they must because my story had a higher rating than the fourth person's story (4.66... mine's a 4.74).

Personally, I think this sucks. If those stories are going to be overlooked at the end of the year voting, then they should NOT be called category winners. If there is no story with 50 votes for that month, there should be no winner.


I'm not mad, it just rankles a bit to know that my story was one of the top four in ratings, but it's not in the voting.

I don't know the criteria, I'm still working on the assumption it's all based on rating. Wish I had something definitive to say, but I only remember Oggs saying it was the ratings that mattered in the year ends. I don't remember anything about a minimum vote total.

I do believe I've read something about the rules for the monthly contest applying for all other contests (With the small exception of Theme contests needing 25 instead of 50 votes).

Which is why I said, if it's going to be that way, then NO monthly winner should be announced in a category if it has less than 50 votes.

I pmed Laurel just to ask. Considering who I would have been up against, there's no way I would have won, but it would have been nice to be recognized, lol.

I still think if a story is going to be overlooked in the end of the year even if it was one of the 12 winners and has one of the 4 highest ratings, then it shouldn't have been declared a monthly category winner in the first place.

Remember, this is going to expose all the nominees to more attention than usual. That score may be the result of a recent trolling. I'm sure my scores will be doing their fair share of plummeting while voting is going on.

Not all categories can garner 50 votes in two years let alone one. And a monthly winner is better recognition (as BIB sort of mentions in a different way) than many get. Any promo, is good promo
