I was thinking of building a new PC but can't decide which to build. I've got about a ~$2000 budget.

Iona Mark I

*CPU/Core i7 3770K Ivy Bridge Quad Core processor
*Motherboard/ECSH2-AX Gold Edition
*Memory/G Skill RipJaws X Series 16GB (2x8GB) 1600MHz 240pin dual channel memory kit
*GPU/MSI GTX 680 TwinFrozr
*PSU/Corsair HX850 850W power supply
*Coolermaster HAF-XM Mid Tower Case (can I fit all of this in a mid-tower case?)
*Hard Drive/Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200RPM 64MB Cache Internal Hard Drive
*Optial Drive/ASUS Blu-Ray Internal disk drive
*CPU cooler/ZALMAN CNPS9900MAX-R

Approximately $1,710.91
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Susan Mark I

*CPU/Intel Core i7 3820 Sandy Bridge 3.6GHz Quad-Core processor
*Motherboard/MSI Big Bang X-Power II LGA 2011 X79
*Memory/Corsair Dominator Platinum 16GB (4x4 GB) 1866MHz Quad Channel memory kit
*GPU/MSI GTX 680 TwinFrozr
*PSU/Corsair HX850 850W power supply
*Case/Coolermaster HAF 932 full tower case
*Hard Drive/Seagate Barricuda 1TB 7200 RPM 64GB Cache
*Optical drive/Internal Blu-Ray
*CPU cooler/ZALMAN CNPS9900MAX-R

Total $1,939.98 approximately.

Where's your LCD?

The one I'm using. A 27" 1920x1080 Viewsonic

The Ivy Bridge is about 5% faster than the Sandy Bridge and uses significantly less energy and runs cooler.

I'll probably go with Iona Mark I.

Why don't you want a new LCD too?

It's always interesting Mike.

I've got a conference call to join now with a chap starting his day in Amsterdam.

Good luck with this project!

I've got an old apple laptop that's abut 6 years old.

I have no idea what's inside. All I know is that it keeps having problems and is always being repaired.

Maybe I should get a new one..

That's pretty much what I just put together at work. Except a GTX 690 instead, a Corsair liquid cooler, and an ssd. Came out a bit more expensive. Mostly because of the crazy costly graphics card. But then again, I wasn't paying.

Seriously though, you got to get an SSD. Just a cheapo one at 64 GB for the OS will makes loads of difference.

Isn't it obvious?

Two individual GTX 680's would outperform a single GTX 690 by a very wide margin because of higher clock speeds.

The dual-core GPU's are down-clocked for energy and heat reasons. Plus I wouldn't recommend using one unless you have at least a 1KW power certified supply.

850W is barely enough for my two HD 5870's.

A GTX 690 is two GTX 680 that shares memory. There's no GPU difference. Some cards are downclocked but not all. The one i use wasn't. But two GTX 680 would still be better because of higher internal memory bandwidth.

However, I'm lazy and a GTX 690 is easy to install. Also, with a single card in the case, airflow is better and I have room for more upgrades later.

Then you're doing something wrong. You can power dual 960's on an 800W PSU with power to spare.

One GTX 680 would still outperform two antiquated Radeon HD 5870's in CrossfireX, right?

A single card means less wires, less heat production, less energy consumption, no micro-stuttering problems, and better airflow.

Anyway, check out this sexy and stylish gold Z77/LGA1155 motherboard.

Mebbe. Haven't tried.

Not my idea of nerd porn.

Get an SSD drive ... it makes startup and shutdown WAY faster. My newish Dell has a 256GB SSD (to go along with a 2TB HD) w/32GB RAM and it's wonderful. :)

The flash drive (SSD) is very nice. Don't forget to install a binder full of women.

Hi, my name is Michelle and I like guys that build their own computers.

They boot up really fast and I like the size of their hard drives.

Some guys like to use the USB port in the front, but I prefer the
ones in the back.

I especially like guys that don't use the USB located on the front of the case, I like the ones that use the one in back.

*nuts on her face*

I've never played WoW.

The only MMORPG's I've played are Diablo 2 and 3.
